Fifty years ago this week, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I have a dream speech. But in coverage of events celebrating its anniversary, the entirety of Kings address will rarely be reprinted, if at all, nor will viewers see footage of his speech delivered in full.
(Excerpt) Read more at washingtonpost.com ...
I thought King’s legacy belonged to all Americans, and especially to all African-Americans, but I guess the King family thinks it belongs to them ... and they charge the rest of us to “use” it.
Regardless, the National Archives posts a copy of the full speech here:
http://www.archives.gov/press/exhibits/dream-speech.pdf
I guess the government doesn’t have to abide by copyright law? Anyway, I couldn’t find any new outlet that posts the whole speech, but in this digital age, it’s just as good to post a link.
Perfectly good word, you just got it backwards. I’ve done the same myself, though not with that word.
You could use disapprobation or disapproval. I think condemnation or censure would be good too.
By the way, the updated speech satire is very good. Keep it up.
I heard on the radio that today’s speech anniversary event in D.C. had nothing to do with the content of the original speech.
I’m thinking there must be a similar sounding word that has the desired meaning. . .found this at dictionary.com :-)
Reprobation
1. disapproval, condemnation, or censure.
2. rejection.
3. Theology; rejection by God, as of persons excluded from the number of the elect or from salvation.
IF I MAY EXPAND?
KKK was the terrorist wing of the Democrat Party.
Our nations historians reveal that the Democratic Party gave us the Ku Klux Klan, Black Codes, Jim Crow Laws and other repressive legislation which resulted in the multitude of murders, lynchings, mutilations, and intimidations (of thousands of black and white Republicans). On the issue of slavery: historians say the Democrats gave their lives to expand it, the Republicans gave their lives to ban it.
The Democrats:
Democrats fought to expand slavery while Republicans fought to end it.
Democrats passed those discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws.
Democrats supported and passed the Missouri Compromise to protect slavery.

Democrat President John F. Kennedy, had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI.
Democrat President Bill Clintons mentor was U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright, an Arkansas Democrat and a supporter of racial segregation.
Democrat President Bill Clinton interned for J. William Fulbright in 1966-67.
Democrat Senator J. William Fulbright signed the Southern Manifesto opposing the Supreme Courts 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision.

The Republicans:
Republicans enacted civil rights laws in the 1950s and 1960s, over the objection of Democrats.
Republicans founded the HBCUs (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) and started the NAACP to counter the racist practices of the Democrats.
Republicans pushed through much of the ground-breaking civil rights legislation in Congress.
Republicans fought slavery and amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom, citizenship and the right to vote.
Republicans pushed through much of the groundbreaking civil rights legislation from the 1860s through the 1960s.
Republican President Dwight Eisenhower sent troops into the South to desegregate the schools.
Republican President Eisenhower appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision.
Republican Senator Everett Dirksen from Illinois, not Democrat President Lyndon Johnson, was the one who pushed through the civil rights laws of the 1960s.

Republican Senator Everett Dirksen from Illinois also crafted the language for the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibited discrimination in housing.
Republican and black American, A. Phillip Randolph, organized the 1963 March by Dr. King on Washington.
The 1964 Civil Rights Act Roll Call Vote: In the House, only 64 percent of the Democrats (153 yes, 91 no), but 80 percent of the Republicans (136 yes, 35 no), voted for it. In the Senate, while only 68 percent of the Democrats endorsed the bill (46 yes, 21 no), 82 percent of the Republicans voted to enact it (27 yes, 6 no).
Thaddeus Stevens, a Radical Republican that introduced legislation to give African Americans the so-called 40 acres and a mule and Democrats overwhelmingly voted against the bill.
During the Senate debates on the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, it was revealed that members of the Democratic Party formed many terrorist organizations like the Ku Klux Klan to murder and intimidate African Americans voters. History reveals that it was Abolitionists and Radical Republicans such as Henry L. Morehouse and General Oliver Howard that started many of the traditional Black colleges, while Democrats fought to keep them closed. Many of our traditional Black colleges are named after white Republicans.
After exclusively giving the Democrats their votes for the past 25 years, the average African American cannot point to one piece of civil rights legislation sponsored solely by the Democratic Party that was specifically designed to eradicate the unique problems that African Americans face today.
As of 2004, the Democrat Party (the oldest political party in America) has never elected a black man to the United States Senate, the Republicans have elected three.
IF YOU HAVE GOTTEN DOWN THIS FAR, THANK YOU. HOPING THIS WILL WAKE YOU UP!
I have a Dremel....
Great post, Warrior Nurse!
Taxman Bravo Zulu for your efforts here!
One has to wonder how the Democrats have managed to convince 90+ per cent of black Americans that they (Democrats) are their FRiends and Republicans are their enemies?
Of course, being LIEberals helped (THEY ALL LIE! ALL THE TIME!), but how so many people could even THINK the garbage the Democrats are peddling is expensive steak is well beyond my powers of reason!
Keep you head down, buddy! And your eyes and ears open! We need you back home, safe and sound!
How many pre-1964 southern racist Democrat bigots did NOT join the Republican party after 1964?
Orval Fabus
Benjamin Travis Laney
John Stennis
James Eastland
Allen Ellender
Russell Long
John Sparkman
John McClellan
Richard Russell
Herman Talmadge
George Wallace
Lester Maddox
John Rarick
Robert Byrd
Al Gore, Sr.
Bull Connor
In fact, it seems that MOST of the Dixiecrats did NOT join the Republican party, even though many of them lived long past 1964.
Only a very FEW of them switched to the GOP, such as Strom Thurmond and Mills Godwin.
And as we all know by now, the ONLY admitted former KKK member in Congress today is Robert Byrd, a former KKK Kleagle, a recruiter who persuaded people to join the KKK.
So where do we get this myth that “most” of the southern racist Democrats switched to the Republican party after 1964?
Is it a myth? Or just another Democrat LIE?
Bwahahahahaha!
You forgot Sam Ervin, William Fullbright, Spessar Holland, and Lister Hill.
MLK supported paying everyone in the US a living wage, regardless of work. He was strongly opposed to our involvement in Vietnam. I believe he also wanted reparations for blacks.
Not a typical Republican, although I suspect McCain would figure out a way to support those ideas now...
Thanks should have looked too congressmen too
