Tesla outsells Porsche, Buick, Lincoln, others in California
Christian Science Monitor ^ | August 27, 2013 | Bengt Halvorson

Yes, it's shocking. California automaker Tesla Motors is outselling a number of very well established vehicle brands in its home state—with only one model: the all-electric Model S.

In June, Tesla outsold (on the basis of registrations) Buick, Lincoln, Porsche, Volvo, and Cadillac—and far outsold Jaguar and Land Rover combined. And the long-established, full-line luxury brand Infiniti only posted just 51 more registrations in the state than Tesla.

This wasn't just a monthly sales blip, either. Even on a year-to-date basis, through June, Tesla has sold more vehicles in California than Land Rover, Jaguar, Lincoln, Volvo, or Porsche.

I visited a Tesla showroom the car is sharp and well built, but for a price of like $130,000.

Something tells me California is subsidizing the sales there.

I wouldn’t buy an electric car if you gave me one for free.

the price ranges from 70k to 120k depending on the packages you take. Personally I consider this thing about 100k for the good version. The cheaper version range is just too short to be worth it

why not?
range thats equivalent to gas cars
cost per mile cheaper than gas cars
charge time reduced to 30 mins per charge
charging at super station is free, so you could travel around US for free

The only problem with tesla cars at moment is the initial cost. Once they bring it down, it will be a game changer.

One would think that you’d see them all over the SF Bay Area. I’ve seen just one in the past year. I have to wonder where they all are hiding.

Must be.

I’m seeing them everywhere in the Bay Area.

I found one website that claims, as of June first of this year, there are 19 functional stations with 11 more listed as ‘planned’.

You would change your mind if you drove a performance electric motorcycle. Amazing the performance. Very dynamic ride.

I’ve seen just one. I guess I need to get out more or specifically watch for them.

The Tesla will eat most petrol-powered cars out there. Electric motor torque is instantaneous and can’t be matched by gasoline.

The planned superchargers are here. There be a hundred of these things by end of year (2013)
