If Tel Aviv is hit, Obama will sit on his hands. If Cyprus is hit, there isn’t a whole lot that Londonistan can do from a strategic standpoint, having gutted their military. They’ll fight back, but they don’t have the legs for any sort of protracted conflict in the ME without serious assistance from America.
Likewise, the USSR is staying out of this one, at least with respect to a nuclear missile attack on US military assets. While their SSM/ASM capability is worthy of caution, any carrier group is going to have ASW assets well outside the launch envelope of the SS-N-22 family of missiles. I’ll place my bet on the side of our air and ASW assets every single day of the week.
Likewise, the Soviet military is an underfunded shell of its former self. While it possesses a credible nuclear and strategic threat, it is sorely lacking in combat experience, basic combat preparedness and infrastructure... all communist blustering aside. They’re not about to start a nuclear conflict.
We should be more concerned with the fact that the Obamao administration has thrown many different forms of gasoline on the ME conflicts, and why.
