** process to convert coal and coal-bed methane into diesel **
Can someone tell me why we can't use our own coal here in the USA to produce diesel fuels ?
Let me guess, the EPA ? to dirty to use ? to costly ?
A lot of people don't realize is that during WWII Germany used " Syngas " to run over 500,000 vehicles, Sweden 73,000, France 65,000, Denmark 10,000, Finland 43,000, that's about 700,000 vehicles during WWII that ran on woodgas or " SYNGAS ".
Yes, they used wood as a fuel believe it or not.
Propane, butane, diesel, gasoline types of fuels can be extracted from wood also.
A lot of cities here in the US mainly on the east coast used " Usersgas " or a type of syngas that was extracted from coal to run those gas lamps in the cities up until WWII.
With all the abundance of natural resources and technology we have there is no reason or excuse for us to be dependent on foreign oil.

Because the process isn’t cheap.
