AMMAN | AMMAN (Reuters) - Western powers told the Syrian opposition to expect a strike against President Bashar al-Assad's forces within days, according to sources who attended a meeting between envoys and the Syrian National Coalition in Istanbul.
"The opposition was told in clear terms that action to deter further use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime could come as early as in the next few days, and that they should still prepare for peace talks at Geneva," one of the sources who was at the meeting on Monday told Reuters.
The meeting at a hotel in downtown Istanbul was between senior figures of the Syrian National Coalition, including its president Ahmad Jarba, and envoys from 11 core "Friends of Syria" alliance members, that included U.S. envoy Robert Ford, the top U.S. official handling the Syria file, the sources said.

This time, it is important. sarc/ Obama need to save the Muslim Brotherhood's and other terrorists' bacon. He is determined to establish the Greater Caliphate an the Egyptian military has rained on his parade so Syria is now his target until he can turn Egypt back to "his" side.
Is Thursday, some time between 10:30 and 10:45AM (CST) okay for you? We're thinking of hitting a couple of sites with lots of meanies usually stay, so if you have any suggestions on possible targets, let us know anytime before Thursday. - Barack
Who will join us in the attack (raid)? England (looks that way), France (Perhaps), Italy (maybe), Turkey (looking good here), Oman?, Saudi Arabia?
Question is how will Syria Respond? She has lots of choices too.
A) Hit Israel hard—This might unify Syria.
B) Hit Isael with Gas and Biological weapons? Hope the Jews will hit back hard and gain allies for Syria.
C) Hit UK bases or US ships at sea?
D) Use terrorism to hit the USA and UK or France? Gas?
E) Get the Russians involved in some way.
F) Get Iran involved so they can hit Oman and Saudi Arabia?
G) Hit Lebannon and or Turkey with gas and such?
H) kill every Christian in Syria burn all their churches.
I) cause anti-American riots and embassy attacks in the Arab world.
J) Go to the UN and claim victimhood? Use Terrorist groups to pound Israel with rockets and bombs?
K) Hit US airlines with rockets or send fighters to shoot down US planes?
L) Get North Korea to threaten attacks with other lands.
M. Hit oil tankers?
They won’t get out.
Now there is but two questions to consider:
1. Is O’Slimey one prepared to go to war with Russia?
2. Is O’Slimey one prepared to go to war with China?
LOL!
1. We attack with cruise missiles and stand off weapons and it does not seriously degrade his military. To degrade his military we would need boots on the ground.
2. This attack will not degrade his ability to deliver chemical attacks as he has already dispersed his chemical weapons all over Syria and probably in civilian areas to preclude us from attacking the munition stores.
3. After an attack Assad will have no compunction to not use chemical weapons in mass against the rebels and perhaps Israel if he is that nuts.
4. Assad runs wild with his military.
5. Israel delivers a devastating blow to Syria if they are attacked. If Syria delivered a truly damaging strike to Israel they might even go nuclear.
NOW COMES THE NIGHTMARES.
A. Israel goes nuclear?
B. The USA and Russia wind up in a conventional or nuclear stand off. Assad is their close ally.
C. The USA puts boots on the ground in Syria, which is a real nightmare.
QUESTIONS:
A. Why would Assad use chemical weapons against a mainly civilian area knowing full well that this could bring the USA into the conflict against him. Currently Assad is winning the conventional battle. Was it Assad or the rebels that used the chemical weapons?
B. Why in the hell should the USA help the rebels? The rebels are mainly Al Queda and Al Queda affiliates.
C. If we are successful in ousting Assad, what will be the result and who will be the new government of Syria and will they be hostile to us?
FACTS:
A. Assad is anti West and our enemy but he is rational.
B. Al Queda is anti West and our enemy and not rational. If the rebels win, Al Queda will have access to vast chemical weapon stores and an ample supply of shoulder launched surface to air missiles. The next time you see those missiles could be in London, Paris, Rome, New York etc.
C. Our two enemies are killing each other with great abandon. What is not to like about this?
D. Russia has a strategic interests that they might back up with military might. They have a vital naval base in Syria on the Med.
D. Innocent civilians are being killed by the tens of thousands by both sides.
SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM
A. Establish an enclave in Southern Syria on the Jordanian border. Give civilians humanitarian aid and protection.
B. Give war a chance and let our enemies kill each other and hope they kill each other down to the last damn man!
C. Tell John McCain and his little buddy Lindsey from South Carolina to shut the hell up.
IIRC he DID win the Nobel Peace Prize. He probably will expect Russia and China to honor that.
Just to make sure I’ve got this right ...
Congressional approval under the War Powers Act is still required for a cruise-missile strike, same as for boots on the ground, right?
So Obummer expects Congressional approval before Thursday?
With Congress on vacation?
Zero has to inform congress within 48 hours. He has sixty days to basically do as he pleases with a 30 day extension to get our guys out of dodge.
yours thoughts may be ahead of the Obama teams thinking,
I read recently that the DoD has about 7000 - 8000 drones in service. I’d assume some of them can fly low and detect air defense radars, and will be the decoys that get the AA to “light up”, and of course, following closely behind will probably be the drones that are carrying the HARM missiles. In addition to hundreds of cruise missiles now on scene, the strikes could be pretty useful at taking out Assad’s air force, and/or decimating his elite troops. Not sure I like how the aftermath will play out, but that’s what I expect for airstrikes. I don’t see a whole lot of manned flights, simply for the bad press that could come from a shoot down.
The winning play here, is to decimate Iran’s nuclear program and their infrastructure that allows them to re-supply Assad. We all know the Iranians were involved is some way with the chemical weapons strikes, and they are involved in this up to their eyelids. Not only that, in attacking Iran, Obama satisfies his “red line” and Iran begins to realize that they can no longer “war game” our responses. Yes, so far they have been playing chess while we have been playing checkers, but the time is ripe for us to play a completely different game. The game from the movie “War Games”.
However the course of action you describe is too logical and makes too much sense to be taken up by this crowd. They do not know what they are doing.
