At that hour, in these parts, no "save a trip" value. Nothing going on anyway, and they patrol within a few miles at all hours.
The phone was taken out of service. It had taken itself offhook, got a dialtone, and called 911. Was offhook when I picked it up.
I don't remember what the dogs were doing, except they weren't around to answer the door. They would be, today. Action at the door is major excitement, the BEST excuse for barking up a storm.
Another funny one was in a nearby small town called Norris years ago. I was listening on their frequency about 45 MHZ and heard "This is a national alert. Be on the look out for female" and starting giving description and suddenly went silent.
I had trained ears and noticed it was a different level of modulation & much louder. The officer and dispatcher was saying was that you to each other. I called their PD and said I heard what you heard on the scanner. It was SKIP. The guy said OK who's Skip? LOL.
