Yeah, us old folks who remember what it was like to believe in and trust law enforcement, we’re all those ugly things you said. Amazing how much you sound like my high school hippie friends from the early 70’s.

Anyway, I dont know why some folks think its an either/or thing. We who still respect law enforcement and see it as essential to a healthy conservative culture can still figure out when a LEO is just plain incompetent. Tragic errors were made in this case. All the good outcomes you never hear about, because the result was boring. Nobody died. No dog shot. No helpless old man tased. Just decent people doing their job. It does happen. Does pointing that out really make me such an awful person to you? Times sure have changed, and in such a sad way.

Law enforcement isn't being trained properly is a lot of the problem. Several dynamics changed especially in East Tennessee. Both City Cops in all Tennessee cities and all County SD's are running one man patrols. A 22 year old SD? Most counties would have made him a Jailer at that age. That's one year older than legal age to own a sidearm.

He needed to be partnered for a couple of years and that's not happening anymore. That is where inexperienced younger officers are going to learn things like hey let the owner know you're in his driveway and on his property especially at night. Most will have Dispatch call the residence if at night.

A more seasoned Cop would understand many persons are armed on their own property. Two officers would also allowed one to check the back of the garage and the other to safely call him out or wait for more back up.

The worse thing officers can do is start yelling. If I'm outside my home and I hear someone yelling I don't know who they are especially at night. My first instinct will be draw because where I live no one should be there.

Louisville Tennessee where the man was shot is mostly a rural area patroled by the county sheriffs department. Louisville is mostly a rural community mailing address with a store maybe a school there. It's been a few years since I went through there. I would expect most homeowners to be armed. So would a more experienced deputy.

Your the one sounding like an early 1970’s young’n, not me. This sort of thing is epidemic now. It was not that way in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. (Sure bad events happened with LEO’s but nothing like the quantity of ‘em going on now). Wait until one of these poorly trained, trigger happy streoid taking goons shoots one of your family by ‘mistake’. Or how about you and your family being ordered to ‘shelter in place’, (as was done in Boston following the bombing), so the brownshirts (police), can search your house, with weapons pointed directly at you and your cowering family and innocent loved ones while they do it, trying to find a suspect. Or wait until you or your family are truly wronged by an LEO for some/any reason and his pals lie through their teeth to cover for him. You will sing a different tune then. I’ll bet when the muslim orders police to begin any sort of shelter in place, (Martial Law’), you and your early 1970’s hippie pals will be the first to obey without question. Us older folks will not I can assure you.
