Most of the leaders in the Arab world are narcissistic. Most of them know how popular it is to hate Israel. Therefore, just like Saddam did before him, Assad threatens to attack Israel believing that the Arab World will rally to his cause and drop their differences to engage the biggest/most hated enemy of Islam.
It’s fantasy, but they believe it will save them. It won’t.
