I don't honestly think "social media" are the problem here. A medium is, after all, a means of communicating something between a willing sender and a willing recipient. It's the "willing" part that's the problem.

I once got into a huge flame war on FR over a situation where a girl got drunk at a frat party, went 95% of the way with a fellow, then asked him to stop, and got date-raped when the lad couldn't stop himself for the last 5%.
During this brouhaha, I told the angry ladies on FR that while a crime was committed, had it been my daughter in that case I would still chew her out for getting in that situation in the first place.
This situation isn't even close to that. I have a feeling that she would've been proud if the twitter commentary had called her a hottie instead of a sl-t.
