Activists from several Chicago community groups on Thursday called for a one-day boycott of Chicago Public Schools because of what they say are discriminatory practices against poor African-American and Latino students.
The group is asking students to skip school Wednesday and parents and supporters to forgo a Chicago Board of Education meeting to attend a rally in front of the board's downtown office, followed by a march to City Hall.

The activists said the school district's decision to close 49 elementary schools and a high school program has destabilized minority communities and put student lives in danger. Many mentioned the shootings that have occurred recently along Safe Passage routes. Others talked about budget cuts at Chicago Public Schools that have led to teacher layoffs.

Haven't these people learned anything from George Orwell? It's not like his books were printed in cursive.

Victor Alquicira, 17, a student at Roosevelt High School, said a number of staff members have been let go from his school in Albany Park, including one of his counselors. "Now that she is gone I have to build a new relationship with a new counselor at the time I need her the most," he said.Huh? He needs his counselor now more than ever? What the hell?

This is what Community Organizers do for a living. When they pull protests such as this off, they go to the head of their class.
