Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, spoke at a Phoenix forum about racial profiling Saturday, saying she has found purpose in her son's death, and new meaning in a Florida jury's decision to acquit the man who killed him.
"If [George Zimmerman] would have been convicted, then that would have been an end to the story," Fulton said. "And I would not be sitting here."
Fulton spoke to a crowd of around 100 people at Memorial Hall in Steele Indian School Park. It was part of a forum on racial profiling and a U.S. tour to decry the "Stand Your Ground" gun law that found her son's death justified.
"I never believed that the jury would not see that it was a murder," she says.
Fulton and the family's lawyer, Benjamin Crump, say they are using the loss to champion their latest effort to change Stand Your Ground laws in the U.S. with the "Trayvon Amendment," which, Crump says, would make it so that "if you confront someone, and if you instigate [a fight], you can't get away with murder."
Crump says the problem is not just that Zimmerman was found legally justified in killing Martin but, more important, the precedent it sets.
"Now every black and brown boy walking down the street has as target on their back, and this law says when you hit that target, it's okay."
Arizona and about 20 other states have Stand Your Ground laws -- or something similar to them -- which grants a person the right to use deadly force to defend themselves if they feel threatened, without requiring them to retreat. Fulton and Crump say they plan to travel to as many Stand Your Ground states as possible to catalyze discussion about the law.

I am so sick and tired of this race baiter ‘mother’. George Zimmerman’s attorney’s had no need to use the Stand your ground law. Her Thug son was beating Zimmerman’s head into the concrete, it was a simple case of ‘self defense’. I am totally convinced that these thug’s and thug supporters want a ‘get out of Jail free’ Card as well as totally defenseless prey.
TailG Joe, sorry.. I would send my own crap to her in an envelope, if I could...
What a liar. Florida's Stand your ground law did not come into consideration at all in the GZ trial. If the mother of the Punk who assaulted GZ and broke the law says it does then she is a bold faced liar.
If you do not understand the facts of this case then you need to refer to the true and factual transcripts of the trial and stop listening to the left wing lying media. I bet she is making a "killing" off of her sons death with these events. Contrast that to how much all of this cost GZ.
She should go on the road with that twit Fluke. Between the two of them they couldn’t rally more people than the opening of a new Piggly Wiggly
Trayvon instigated the fight and got a darwin award in response. Sucks for his family. Maybe Fulton should have done a better job of raising him - or have even been around.
FBI statistics are kind of proving that profiling may be somewhat justified.
Stupidity and racism won’t bring your criminal son back.
Sybrina Fulton hit the jackpot. After abandoning her son to street culture, Trayvon had the good luck to get shot by a “white hispanic”, rather than his true destiny of getting shot by another black man in a drug deal gone bad. If he had gotten killed by another black man, he’d be a statistic, no value to anyone. But this way, ka-ching baby.
‘she (T-bone’s mommy) has found purpose in his death”
No more punching a clock and pretending to work at the welfare office!
She’s riding this horse for as long as it lasts and milking this cash cow for all it’s worth.
You failed your boy, Momma. You should be ashamed, but instead you exploit his death.
Not that it matters to the left and the press in this country, but:
“Stand your ground” had nothing to do with this case’s failure against Zimmerman because there was nowhere near evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed the crimes he was charged with. NO WHERE NEAR. They are trying to act as though he got off on some technicality, and but for this law, he would have been convicted. Self defense is a doctrine which still exists without stand your ground.
George Zimmerman is himself multiracial, including black from a fairly close bloodline.
There is absolutely no evidence of racial profiling as the other people Zimmerman had tracked were white.
Again, not that any of those facts matter to the press, etc.
Justice was done. The thug-boy got his due for his actions. Fulton was criminally negligent in not parenting the punk. Since GZ was charged with murder, she should be charged and tried for child neglect/abuse.
Once the FBI statistics show that Negros commit crimes at the same percentage of their race as whites I will still stop profiling. Minor correction, with as much history of a thug culture Negros have, add a good 10 to 15 years to that.
Note: I have been assaulted by a Negro. My sister has been assaulted by a Negro. And I had an uncle hit over the head with a 2x4, stuffed in a oil drum and burned to death by a Negro.
I profile. I carry. And I will defend myself.
Hey Mommy.... Act like an animal... Get treated like an animal....I wonder how much money you and rev. Al has made over your dead son’s grave?
I did a lousy job of raising my son but let me interfere with your rights!
“saying she has found purpose in her son’s death,” no she has found MONEY in her spawn’s death
Who’s picking up the fare to fly her backside around the nation doing the phony president’s business of race baiting and pimping?
Whos picking up the fare to fly her backside around the nation doing the phony presidents business of race baiting and pimping?
Based on all we've seen to date, I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn the Department of so-called "Justice" is doing its worst to foment hatred and ignorance.
