NEW YORK (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp said on Friday that Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer would retire within the next 12 months, once it has selected a successor, sending its shares up almost 9 percent.
Ballmer said in a statement that he would have timed his retirement in the middle of Microsoft's announced transformation to a devices and services company. But he said: "We need a CEO who will be here longer term for this new direction."
The software company said its board had appointed a special committee to direct the process of appointing a new CEO.

Imagine how far the market would jump if Hussein 0bama announced his resignation! (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)
YaYYY .... Microsoft's getting a new president ...
Until you learn of the Fascist that replaces him.
Ballmer came to MS in 1981 and saw to the explosive growth over the year, however, many always thought he was stale and bland. A great sales guy with more energy than a squirrel on crack, but not the idea guy.

Ich habe keine Ahnung was du redest.
Also hier ist ein Foto Vergleich Steve Ballmer zu einem Nazi.
And he does a great duet with Gene Wilder too.
I look forward to watching MS under new leadership, but I’ll probably miss the goofy maniac. He was a competent leader in many ways, but perhaps not as visionary as the company needed.
Wonder what he’ll do with the $16 Billion he has ....

The problem with Baller is that he always missed the mark, even in the early years. Under his CEO reign the stock has been virtually flatlined.
I wonder why the board can’t ask Bill Gates if he’s interested in coming back as CEO...
Isn’t Bill Gates the chairman of the board?
Yes, you’re right.
Bill is chairman of the board.
He’s still Microsoft’s biggest shareholder. He’s only 57 (too young to retire, can’t even qualify for social security... HEH HEH). He’s going to be on the committee to find a replacement for Ballmer.
There has to be some small chance that he surveys what’s out there, and decides that no one else is good enough to take care of his baby.
... and he’s so well-regarded that Microsoft stock spiked upward on the news, lol.
Remarkable resemblance.
