U.S. Army Pfc. Bradley Manning was sentenced to up to 35 years in prison for leaking an unprecedented amount of classified material to the website WikiLeaks. It is the stiffest punishment ever handed out in the U.S. for leaking to the media.

Why did he write Obama a letter and was it a love letter?
Did it say, “Sincerely, Chelsea Manning” at the end of the letter?

Coombs (his lawyer) said he is “hoping” that Fort Leavenworth “would do the right thing” and provide hormone therapy for Manning. “If Fort Leavenworth does not, then I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure they are forced to do so.”
The Army responded to Manning’s decision to seek hormone therapy with a statement.
“Inmates at the United States Disciplinary Barracks and Joint Regional Correctional Facility are treated equally regardless of race, rank, ethnicity or sexual orientation,” the statement reads. “All inmates are considered soldiers and are treated as such with access to mental health professionals, including a psychiatrist, psychologist, social workers and behavioral science noncommissioned officers with experience in addressing the needs of military personnel in pre- and post-trial confinement.
“The Army does not provide hormone therapy or sex-reassignment surgery for gender identity disorder. The USDB has implemented risk assessment protocols and safety procedures to address high risk factors identified with the Prison Rape Elimination Act.”
In the U.S. prison system, transgender prisoners who have not had genital surgery are generally assigned to live with their birth-sex peers, but the military policy is unclear.
On whether Manning will seek sexual reassignment surgery, Coombs said “I haven’t really discussed that aspect with her. Really, it’s more about getting the hormone therapy, so at this point I don’t know the answer to that.”
Coombs told Guthrie that he expects Manning “to be out” on parole in seven years. “But I actually expect him to get pardoned,” Coombs continued. “At least that’s what my hope is, that the president will in fact pardon him.”

Henceforth, every time an issue arises with Obama, Manning will come out of the woodwork until that issue is forgotten.

I think the Chelsea gamble....getting into a federal prison instead of a military prison...is a gimmick that will not work. The president will look like an idiot if he signs off on this. Almost every single GI convicted over the remaining three years...will try the same trick and the judges will be extremely upset over the fact that these folks will be denied while Chelsea was approved.
The best that Chelsea can hope for....is that the President issues some order in his last week at the White House, and trims off ten years from the sentence.
I dunno. I will bet he uses it as leverages and threatens the GOP with a pardon unless they play ball with whatever...knowing they will cower in fear of homo backlash if they complain and clueless as ever to the fact that most of America would be furious.

I would also recommend the US Army approve Manning’s request for gender reassignment but give it to Maj. Nidal Hasan along with a long sentence in a prison full of rapist.
