Award-winning journalist Michael Hastings told his neighbor that he was afraid to drive his Mercedes because he believed it had been tampered with, according to a LA Weekly report.
Jordanna Thigpen, a neighbor who had grown close to Hastings, claims he knocked on her door at around midnight one night and asked to borrow her Volvo because he was scared to drive his own vehicle.
He was scared, and he wanted to leave town, she told LA Weekly. She didnt lend Hastings her car because it was in need of repairs.
The next morning, June 18, at roughly 11:15 a.m., Thigpens landlord informed her that Hastings had died in an early morning car crash and his Mercedes had exploded in a ball of fire. She said she burst into tears.

A short while after Hastings died, another mysterious death occured. A many whose name escapes me, who was a computer expert, who had recently found that newer cars can be remotely controlled. IIRC he was a friend of Hastings. Wish I could remember the details. He was 30 or 35.
Just a coincident...
I mean nothing’s worse than believing in nutcase conspiracies! What would the neighbors think of me, plus if I pooh pooh such things on FR maybe the NSA will leave me alone.
I can’t believe FR lately. I think the entire world is going stark raving made and I fully expect total collapse.
You are probably thinking of the death of BARNABY JACK:
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/jul/29/barnaby-jack-hacker-cause-of-death
BARNABY JACK was the computer hacker who mysteriously died a few days before “demonstrating how to wirelessly hack pacemakers” at a hacker convention.
If you’re going to demonstrate something like that, I’d say don’t announce it before hand.
Ditto if you’re writing a “big story” about our MOSLEM CIA DIRECTOR, John Brennan.
I cant believe FR lately. I think the entire world is going stark raving made and I fully expect total collapse.
IF you asked me over 10 years about this sorta thing I would have called you crazy... but now with all the NSA stuff being released and the way the RNC seems to be a puppet of the “powers that be”....
But time after time we have been finding out that they government is becoming more and more antagonistic over how it treats the citizenry, either that or we have become far more aware of it due to the “new media” of the internet...
I’ve no doubt that is the case about newer cars, and it is also possible that this is exactly what happened in this case, but I’m not sure that there is any way to really know at this point.
I do know for a fact that marijuana use combined with pill use can produce an very potent high. I don’t know if he also drinks, but mixing that with alcohol is just unreal in terms of its effects.
I’m not saying he did this while driving, because I do not know. But if a person mixes drugs such as these, it is very possible that doing so will have adverse mental effects that can last past the time the drugs are consumed.
I do not know what happens when MJ is combined with amphetamine, because I have never done that, but MJ is a hallucinogen, and if he smoked high grade MJ, and took Adderall, or snorted Adderall, and also drank...it is very possible that this man had false concepts of reality.
When it comes to politics , spooks and spies ... there is nothing that is a coincidence.
Michael Hastings was running from fear , whether it was real , or chemically induced , it doesn't matter. It was real to him !
Keep your eyes open , your head down , and keep your powder dry .
Perhaps a sense of urgency !
Ditter~:” If he thought his car had been tampered with and he wanted to go to the airport, why didnt he call a cab?”
Same reason he didn’t pick up his phone, and call LAX (or the airline) and book an airline ticket in advance — because if you’re telling everybody that FBI is following/investigating you, and you believe they tampered with your car, and you knock on your neighbor’s door at MIDNIGHT asking to borrow her car and telling her you must “get out of town,” you sure as hell don’t pick up your phone and start telegraphing your moves over an (obviously tapped) phone.
Calling a taxi to LAX says “HELLO NSA? I’m fleeing the country. Could you please kill me, or at least send a driver in a ‘taxi’ sedan to pick me up, kill me, and dispose of my body? Oh, you’ll be here in 20 minutes? Okay, great, I’ll wait.”
Instead, you wait until the middle of the night, sneak out of your apartment thru the window, slip inside your car, and race to LAX as fast as humanly possible (blowing red lights).... then you run inside the airport to the ticket counter and book a ticket on the next (early morning flight around 6/7am) going to any city in the general ballpark of your destination.
That’s what Hastings was doing.
That’s why he waited until 4:30am to leave the house — because there’s not many flights departing until 6am-7am-8am. If you leave home around 4:30am, you arrive at LAX maybe 5am, then you run inside, buy a ticket for the first flight out, perhaps 6am or 7am, and you wait in the well-lit waiting area and you sit in full view of people to avoid getting Breitbarted.
Tapping your phone is probably the first thing CIA/NSA does when they take an interest in you. Hell, they’ve admitted collecting phone data AND emails from every American citizen anyway, and by lunch tomorrow, we’ll get “NSA revelation #99999999999” about how they’re “Whoops, also tapping everybody’s phone.”
Dick Van Dyke’s car burned purty good just this week.
I suspect Alan Brady.
Barnaby Jack, that’s it. Young guy.
THe coroner’s toxicology report, which I read on Scribd, said that any drugs were in such trace amounts they would not have contributed to the crash.
I have no doubt that he was experiencing legitimate fear. Of being Breitbarted.
Methinks there might be something in this? Or maybe it was just an accident like Princess Diana. Maybe its time to start thinking about making some changes.
Bingo........I have been suspicious since the beginning.
Her folks think it was suicide:
In the immediate aftermath of their daughter's death, rumours circulated that she had been murdered. She had received death threats because of her research on the atrocity. "We don't believe she was targeted," her mother says now as her husband, Shau-Jin Chang, watches her, nodding his head solemnly. "We knew she was suicidal. She left a suicide note."
Some of those depression drugs are dangerous. I don't know if it's a matter of people developing a tolerance and having to up their dosage to get the same effect, which leads to problems, or something else.
