must be born to citizen parents (plural)

But where did your opinion come from? A lot of people share it, but it appears to be folklore. It's certainly not in the Constitution.

Is it just something you think should be the case?

There are some places where persons of authority have defined or discussed the term as being born to citizen parents.

For starters, have a look at how Rep. Bingham of Ohio defined the term. A person of great authority on citizenship in the U.S.
