Detroit goes to the dogs

As the human exodus from bankrupt Detroit picks up speed, packs of feral dogs are overrunning the city’s streets and abandoned buildings.

Bloomberg reports that as many as 50,000 canines prowl through the Motor City’s darkened roads and condemned houses, causing serious problems for the few people that remain.

“It was almost post-apocalyptic,” said Amanda Arrington of the Humane Society, who visited the city last October. “There are no businesses, nothing except people in houses and dogs running around.”
.
.
The threat of dog attacks have forced the Postal Service to temporarily halt delivery in certain neighborhoods. One mail carrier recalled using clouds of pepper spray to disperse swarms of small but savage hounds.

“It’s like Chihuahuaville,” she said.

One woman was attacked four months ago by two strays while sitting on her porch. The animals tore off the woman’s scalp during the assault.

M.P. detail tasked with driving around and shooting all the packs of feral dogs.

RVN SOP.

LZ(Sharon?,Nancy???) They announced that if your unit had a dog it must be secured. The MP's would deal with the rest.

What else can you do?

I’d bet there’s a serious shortage of squirrels,

Not the squirrels, they've become so smart that they use the telephone lines to cross streets now..........They've yet been able to convince the chickens to try it.

As a side note, while I was still working at my plant on Detroit’s east side, I’d occasionally trap possums and coons around my house and drop them off about a block away from the plant while on my way into work...........LOL!

It’s not the dogs’ fault. They may very well be the most civilized creatures left in that town.

I have to keep reminding my poodles , they are not big dogs, take it easy.. We used to have a loose pit or two across the street.. Fortunately, they had nice genes, sweet, but loose

Scratch DA belly of the pug.. Wooff

What about safaris instead of a zombie theme park?

I’ve often thought that some enterprising retired special ops kind of people ought to get together and offer safaris for certain select clients into these kinds of areas to hunt drug dealers and other similar assorted scum.

It’d be the ultimate hunt. Teams of one guide and one client. Bag limit of one. Only the client takes game. Get in, bag the limit, and get out. Done only at night. All very quiet and hush, hush. All equipment and weapons completely destroyed after the hunt. Only cash is used. No rentals or public transportation used.

Not only would this start taking out some of the trash and improve the neighborhoods for the working folk, but it could be done so in such a way as to spook the other bad guys big time. Even better would be to deliberately start some major turf wars by alternating bagging game from the different gangs competing in the same area. Turf wars would also detract from the relevance or importance of the initial kills.

My pug only barks when someone is leaving the house. He’s an anti-guard dog.

And when the UPS guy comes, my pug follows him out of the house and tries to get in his truck.

It’s a good idea. That would fail in a spectacular fashion, but still a good idea.

I only offer Oakland as an alternative. :-)

UPS trucks drive the poodles nuts.. They go wiggy,, the rumble sets em off, FedEX not so.. Beats me,, they’re pretty docile otherwise, strange beasts.

It’s the two-legged, murderous, feral animals who need killing; the dogs have been abandoned and are simply reverting to their natural pack mentality. I don’t blame them, but now they’re going to have to be dealt with. Sad.

Squirrels are clever and resourceful. I can’t even imagine a chicken walking a wire over the road. LOL.

“Rabies will spread quickly.”

And eventually mutate with H1N5. We all know what happens then.

they need to add feral dogs to list of vermin you can take with a small game license.
and in detroit, i bet it’d be easy to find neighborhoods with no (occupied) residence within 100 yards.
