Kidnapping victim Hannah Anderson said in her first interview since she was rescued after a week-long abduction that she knows there are tough times ahead of her but she would get through them because her mom raised her to be strong.
In an interview with the Today show, she said: 'In the beginning, I was a victim. But now knowing everyone out theres helping me, I consider myself a survivor instead.'
The 16-year-old also clarified some details about what her relationship with kidnapper James DiMaggio was like and why they exchanged 13 text messages on the day he abducted her after killing her mother and brother.
Denying that it was phone calls they exchanged, Hannah said the 13 texts were regarding arrangements to pick her up from cheer camp, explaining where exactly she would be and the address.
According to search warrants, Hannah exchanged about 13 phone calls with DiMaggio before she was picked up from cheerleading practice that day.
The San Diego County Sheriff's said it could not immediately explain the discrepancy.
Authorities have also said that letters from Hannah were found at the home. The teen said that they were written about a year ago when she was having trouble getting along with her mother and she sought advice from DiMaggio....

they’re probably busy with the mayor. /s
I smell smoke
Is that true or was she a willing participant ?
Rumors are that DiMaggio was the girl’s father.
She admits that she and her mother were having problems and that is what those letters were all about and the police have those letters as evidence of those problems between mother and daughter —
Who dropped her off at cheerleader practice???
Ohhh wait — that is such a mean question.
A year ago and mother-daughter friction in the teen years is common, generally transitory and seldom results in murder. You are so busy trying this girl in the court of public opinion with specious innuendo.
Who dropped her off at cheerleader practice???
What would that prove, one way or another since it is known that "Uncle Jim" frequently provide transportation?
Ohhh wait that is such a mean question.
It's not mean at all, it's just irrelevant.
BTW, hiring a publicist is normal and smart when you become the eye in a media storm.
Somebody has to handle and respond to the incoming media blitz and a paid professional is a better choice than the family trying to handle it on their own.
It was very likely recommended by counsel.
If he dropped her off then why a dozen text messages regarding where to pick her up??? Pick her up where he dropped her off.
And where was mom that she couldn't drop her off and pick her up -- tied up with something???
And she said nothing to anybody at the cheerleader practice???
If he picked her up at 4 pm and killed them "that night", where was she during the murders? So, was she a witness/particiant or what? Were exactly did the BP spot them? Unless Obama has changed the border, the border is south of the house and Idaho is north. Was DiMaggio headed to Mexico? The timeline has been too flippity-floppity. I suspect they're stringing her along until she lets something slip.
'Some things that Hannah is saying on her Facebook doesn't add up so far; her latest posts are disturbing.'
Uh, yeah. Big time disturbing. All those happy smiling pics she posted the next day and taking time out to have her nails done is very telling. Sure, I'd be doing the talk show circuit a week after my family was killed, uh huh.
If everyone knew she was his biological kid then what was the DNA kit for?
But not before yoou have sat down with the police and provided them with the relevant details -- like when she last saw her mother alive, what happened to her phone, and how she was able to make phone calls when she didn't have a phone.
She became a media sensation after she went online with hundreds if not thousands of texts, pictures and tweets. No, that is not normal. It’s also not normal to hire a paid publicist. Normally, this would be a non-story by now if she wasn’t constantly putting herself out there. Her daddy should have thrown away her cell phone unless the cops are giving her lots of rope.
It wasn’t a practice, it was an all day camp from 9 am to 4:30 pm so it’s a good bet that she got there on her own, rode with a friend, took a bus or was dropped off by her Mom.

Remember it was media hoopla that made a big deal out of the 13 texts/calls because they were on the phone search warrants, not the police, because the cops had read them and knew the content and timeline.
As for the date error on practice/camp, this is par for the course in this day and age of semi literate government workers and wrong door no knock warrant raids. This happens 100’s of times a year in this country, so a wrong date is no surprise either.
Between media incompetence (or deliberate malfeasance to sell more papers, get more internet hits) and government incompetence (warrant errors) you are having a easy time making something out of nothing.
13 texts to get time and place straight is nothing between a teen and adult, esp. if they text in that impossible to understand teen text vernacular.
It takes 3 or 4 texts just to get them to understand that they must spell in real English for you to understand. If it’s a large campus with more than one gym, multiple parking lots and bus stops or if the location changes because she went with her friends to get snacks or drinks and now we’re here instead of there, well 13 messages is nothing.
I guess it would have better to some freepers if this girl was killed too......just amazing...
How do you know she hasn’t spoken to law enforcement? She was in protective custody for 24 hours after being rescued.
Do you actually believe the FBI didn’t debrief her and that nobody asked her any questions at all, just dropped her off at her Dad’s the day after the rescue?
This is another example of media incompetence/malfeasance. The DNA kit listed on the search warrant is the one the police used to collect DNA swabs, not one they "found". The search warrants also list two stain collection kits, but the media is blaring about them being found.
Why? Because they are deliberately creating confusion in order to increase their internet hit rate which increases the value of their ad space.
Stop being a media stooge.
Men have been blaming women for their lack of self control since creation. For some, it’s their go to position for explaining everything.
So then which one is it???
Don't you think that it is important to know which one it is???
How did she get to that event and WHEN did she get there???
And if there was some change in plans regarding the pick up, were there any calls/texts with her mother to confirm that change in plans -- if not then why not???
My guess is that she’s in on it.....13 text messages about where and what time to pick her up??? More like PLANNING something!!!
If she has then why did it take LE a full week to realize that the cheerleading practice was Saturday and not Sunday???
And why did they have to find a photograph of them together at a border checkpoint to find out that they were on the road to Idaho by midnight Saturday. Why didn't she just tell them???
Instead for an entire week LE and the public are led to believe that they left for Idaho at 4:00 Sunday afternoon after cheerleading practice.
And she said the phones were left at the scene to be burned up but police say that they were used Sunday and then turned off together at 4:00.
How were those phones in two places at once???
Either LE is lying or she is or both -- take your pick.
