UPS Drops 15,000 Spouses from Insurance Plan, Blames Obamacare

From the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

“The decision comes as many analysts are downplaying the Affordable Care Act's effect on companies such as UPS, noting that the move reflects a long-term trend of shrinking corporate medical benefits, Kaiser Health News reports. But UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage...

Rising medical costs, “combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost,” UPS said in a memo to employees.”

This decision only affects the spouses of non-unionized workers; dropping spousal coverage is projected to save the company $60 million a year.

The Obama Administration has not commented on UPS’s decision to retract healthcare for its workers’ spouses, but spokeswoman for the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Joanne Peters, cited Massachusetts health care reform, through which employer coverage actually increased. She also had this to say in ‘reply’:

"The health care law will make health insurance more affordable, strengthen small businesses and make it easier for employers to provide coverage to their workers."

It’s hard to know what world the administration is living in, but apparently it’s a world without UPS.

I wonder how many of those employees voted for Obama.

Isn’t it wonderful how Democrats care about the little guy and stick up for working families exploited by evil corporations?

Democrats are sure swell. Look how they help people with innovated programs to meet needs. Wow.

Wish we had more Democrat programs so even more people might escape the harms caused by evil rich people.

“UPS Drops 15,000 Spouses from Insurance Plan, Blames Obamacare”

This is good because it will cause more pollution-causing bodies to die off sooner, reducing global warming.

Also, more people will be unable to afford to have children, so the planet will be better off.

And the spouses cut off from health care can always self diagnose using Google.

VOTE DEMOCRAT!

That there is any debate is the insane part.

The union employees aren’t included. But, I’m sure their premiums will go up when 15,000 people’s premium payments are stopped. It’s going to be fun laughing at the idiots who still love Obama. But it’s sad everyone has to pay for the idiots being idiots.

Yup...how many of these guys voted Obama and voted Democrat? There is no free lunch but Obama got many believing there is.

CORRECTION—— there are plenty of Obama free lunches if you (or family) is on the Federale dole which is all pervasive.

I sure didn’t. This pi$$es me the heck off. How can the company be so biased for the union employees and say screw you to those who happened to take non union positions there? I’ve been there a long time and it seems lately they’re getting greedier everywhere you look. This will be the first year I’ve received no review (that means no raise.) and on top of that I’m doing extra work. When it was overdue I asked about it and got ignored. A couple years ago they quit giving out a Christmas turkey. There’s swearing, hostile environment due to some attitudes, no communication even as far as what one’s job duties are, changes made with no consideration for how it affects others, etc. I’ll be glad in 3 years when I can retire from there.

I’m sure that UPS is self-insured and therefore very insulated from Obamacare; I wonder if they were just looking for a reason to do this. (Don’t construe this statement as an endorsement for Obamacare.)

UPS self insurance costs must be rising too as 0-care approaches.

Once 0-Care kicks in will UPS be allowed to self insure?

It’s amazing that the brilliant minds that created 0bamacare did not see the train wreck that it would become. Perhaps, as some have suggested, it was planned to be a disaster.

>> This pi$$es me the heck off.

Try paying $18k/year for family health insurance before getting too pissed off.

>> [UPS] is getting greedier. A couple years ago they quit giving out a Christmas turkey.

Very trivial in retracting the “turkey” gesture, and to also complain about the retraction. I gather it was more of an insult; a departure from unity.

>> I’ll be glad in 3 years when I can retire from there.

I’ll go to my grave working to pay the bills.
