I heard that he cut the land line before entering, and also confiscated their cell phones. Chances are the old man just took his cell phone back.
Apparently there’s this new fangled device called a cellular phone.
Just a guess, but disabled the landline and they phoned for help on their mobile phone. But that’s just an uneducated guess.
Either that or the guy’s McGyver and repaired the phone line with some surplus belly button lint.
