In the 11th hour negotiations on Capitol Hill, away from the glare of the media and behind closed doors, there are high-level Congressional staffers working to close the deal. In many of the nations biggest legislative crises in recent memory, Rohit Kumar has been at the table.
As the chief negotiator for Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell during the Obama administration, Kumar has been so cunning in negotiating for Republican interests that an unnamed White House official recently characterized him as an evil genius to The Washington Post.
I do think it was intended as a compliment and I don't know who said it," Kumar tells The Fine Print. If a partisan Democrat calls a Republican evil, that's probably intended as a compliment. ... I don't like to characterize myself as evil, I certainly wouldn't characterize myself as a genius, but I have had some success in trying to help forge some of these deals.
Kumar is now leaving his job on Capitol Hill to work in the private sector -- part of a trend of key Hill aides whove recently left government -- raising concern about Congress ability to accomplish its looming agenda when it returns from August recess.

I more suspect someone has info that this “brain” is a double agent working for the RATS.
In order for a brain drain to drain, there must be brains.
In the case of DC, there ain’t no such thing.
From either party.
And most certainly not from lobbyists.
Really - folks who think and create are thinking and creating.
When then can do neither, they go into the government, the MSM, lib arts faculties, or acting.
I must be missing something .... Obama has been eating the Repubs lunch since he came into office. I'm thinking Kumar leaving might be a 'positive', especially if he's the one giving chinless/spineless Mitch McConnell all that "good" advice on which he's been operating (like bend over, roll over, etc. etc.).
PUKE!
This is just self promotion by a guy that is looking to cash in.
...they don't even look like Republican interests.
Good riddance and shows great prescience. Any new Conservative Senator who replaces that dolt, McC, will not want to retain losers like Kumar and his ilk.
What if the “brains” don’t have any personal integrity or political courage? The problem with Republicans is not so much their brains but their complete lack of resolve. As we see time and time again, they are too quick to abandon, cave and appease.
We don’t need so-called “brains”. We need reasonably intelligent and principled people with spines of metal.
Republican interests = keeping their cushy seats in Congress.
I thought that Karl Rove announced that he was leaving ,
.. and was in reality ,..a Demorat !
Sounds like a bright and ambitious guy who quite properly sees a better future for himself in the private sector.
Obviously low expectations with respect to what the R’s can accomplish in negotiations.
Is this a joke?
The GOP hasn't had any geniuses since the death of Ronald Reagan.
PLease reform the question in a format that is possible.
I.E. “ARE there any brains on Capitol HIll?”
Democrats are Law-Less because Republicans are Ball-Less.
