An unprecedented D.C. government program will require medical marijuana dispensaries to put aside 2 percent of their profits in order to subsidize pot purchases for poor patients.

Under the proposed rule, which was published in the D.C. Register last week and is in the midst of a 30-day review period, dispensaries will give at least a 20 percent discount on marijuana to low-income people at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Clinics often offer discounts to poor patients, and other states mention low-income provisions in medical marijuana legislation. But Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, said no other states have inserted this type of provision into regulations.

It just does not seem right to me that the government can tell an industry what they have to do with some portion of their profits. Is this a law they have to follow? Is it a tax?

what is the poverty level these days?

$27,000 for a family of 4?

(how about for a single mom of 7?)

So you can get federally subsidised pot when you make $54,000 per year?

cool...

Just when did the FDA have full scale testing done with benefits weighed in balance with side effects?

How can the federal government do this without FDA approval based on scientific testing?

I don’t use pot. How about you give me the same amount of money that you use to pay for potheads getting high? I’ll put it to good use.
Why the hell are you rewarding these bastards? Why the hell do you make me pay for it?

In CO, about $20,000 in fees will get an upscale business person into the new, high classed pot business.

Everybody in N.E. and S.E., D.C. that’s on disability for being over weight is going to need medical marijuana to cope with their pain don’t ya know. We need a link to that thread that compares welfare to minimum wage in the all the states.
