The Czech parliament voted on Tuesday to dissolve itself, triggering an early election that could hand the Communist Party a share in power for the first time since a bloodless revolution ended the partys totalitarian rule two decades ago.
Opinion polls show that the center-left Social Democrats will be the biggest party, but they will need support from other groups to govern and the leader of the party said he would talk to the Communists about forming a partnership.
In the eyes of many people in the country of 10 million people, the Communists are linked to 41 years of repression. But by being out of power for so long, the party has escaped the taint of sleaze that has tarnished the governments that took over from it.

Why does the ‘Rat party not form a coalition with the communist party here in the US?
... oh, that’s right, they are already linked like twins.
or joined at the hip.
The phenomenon of the low-info voter has gone global, it seems.
Social Democrats are communists. Of the worst kind.
Sounds like wishful thinking by the reporter
The world has gone mad.
Even if the Social Democrats are the largest party doesn’t mean it will form the ruling coalition. If could be that the center-right and right-wing TOTAL a majority, even though each of them is individually smaller than the Social Democrats.
Furthermore, the issue will be raised: Will the Social Democrats RENOUNCE forming a coalition with the Communists. If they don’t renounce, they are likely to support voters to centrist parties (e.g., social-liberal and even market-liberals).
I think the Social Democrats will say their preference is to form a coalition of center-left and centrist parties, and try not to be forced into renouncing forming a coalition with the Communists if they are unsuccessful with their “Plan A,” and as to whether they can weasel around the issue cannot be known at this time.
Bear in mind that the ruling, center-right coalition fell apart because of a scandal leading to the break-up of a junior partner. It is very possible that this problem can be isolated from voting. Why should people turn to the left because some of their center-right or right-wing politicians conduct themselves in an embarrassing manner or worse? We’re the one who are supposed to be realistic about human nature, and to hold individuals and not entire groups responsible for their behavior.
Europe is devolving back to the 1920-1930s.
Further proof that our founding fathers here in the US were incredibly wise and blessed by the Sovereign God -
What an idiotic system - want to change the government up? Just vote to dissolve yourself (parliament).... ugh.. So much for any hope for stability.
The ADA (Americans for democratic Action) was formed in the late forties to incorporate communist/socialist into the democrat party. The democrats had already adopted their platform but the reason for doing it when they did was to keep the communist/socialist party with Henry Wallace off the ballot.
The democrats thought with socialist democrat Senator Adli Stevenson from Illinois they would retain the presidency but could lose to the Republicans if the communist/socialist ran Wallace. The democrats called Stevenson an”egghead” the smartest man alive, ever notice how democrats always talk about how their leaders are so smart? We just don’t really understand because we’re not smart enough. When I looked up the ADA in Wikipedia they said the ADA was started by a few prominent democrats, including Eleanor Roosevelt, to eradicate communism. How misleading, they didn’t tell you they did it by making them democrats and adopting the communist long range objectives.
“Ask Mark Foley”
You are saying that, as opposed to voting for another center-right candidate, you should vote for a left of center candidate when you are disappointed in the behavior of a politician?
Do you, in general, advocate cutting your nose to spite your face?
For example, in sports, instead of putting in a reserve player, when one of your players violates a team rule, you think you should feed the ball to the other team?
Or, in business, if an employee fails a urinalysis, you say don’t replace that worker, no, tell your customers to shop at a competitor’s store so your firm will go bankrupt and everybody will lose their job?
Or, or, oh wait, how about this: if you hear somebody talking in class, instead of identifying that student and holding him responsible, you tell the class that the whole class will be held past the bell?
