Have you read many warrants? The type of kits used are listed as part of the evidence seized because whatever is collected by their use is as yet unknown.

So this warrant lists two stain collection kits and 1 DNA swab kit as having been used to collect evidence.

As for the checkpoint picture, consultation with google maps indicates that the checkpoint was 20 miles or so northwest of his home, which is why they assumed he went north to ID.

The final autopsy report release is pending until the toxicology reports are done.

So then the DNA Swab Kit listed here is the police kit — that makes sense.

San Diego County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell said DiMaggio and the 16-year-old were photographed in his Nissan Versa at a westbound Old Highway 8 checkpoint at 12:10 a.m. on Aug 4.

The westbound Old Highway 8 checkpoint is not on the way to Idaho but to San Diego or Lakeside where her apartment was.
