“You couldn’t give me one.”

Consumer Reports highest scoring car ever. Best crash tests ever. Great looking exterior and interior. Current owners love it. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Priced too high for me or I’d buy one in a second. But you would not take one if it was given to you? I really don’t understand why fellow conservatives are so against electric vehicles. Yes there are the government subsidies but do you want liberals to get all the money? This is exciting technology that still is in it’s infancy but the Tesla Model S and Nissan Leaf are amazing vehicles. Test drive a Leaf. You will surprised what a nice car it really is.

From my statement you assumed that I was against electric vehicles? Nope, I said I wouldn’t take a Tesla. Do you have any idea what it’ll cost to replace those batteries? To install a charger in your garage? To charge the batteries? Do you have AAA to tow you constantly when the batteries run out? Did you know they only tow someone X number of times a year? What are insurance costs for such an expensive vehicle? Nice toy for someone like George Clooney who has a stable of cars. A daily driver? Hardly. Maybe someday.

I’d take one to.

I look at it for what it is a high priced sports car...some folks would never buy a Corvette or even a Mustang for that matter..let alone a Tesla or Lamborghini

Unless you live in a big city the electrics are not going to be daily drivers for awhile, but I suspect they will get there much faster than most here suspect.

I really don’t understand why fellow conservatives are so against electric vehicles.

I'm not against electric vehicles. They are fine where they are fine. I already pay highway taxes when I buy fuel, so I'm not a fan of paying tax credits for people to buy vehicles which won't pay those same fuel taxes.

I can also see the increased demand for electricity driving those rates up, and the increase of using natural gas vs. coal to generate electricity driving up the cost of my primary home heating fuel. I am against electric cars being mandated for everyone (If you don't thing the same people who are insisting global warming is a crisis even after well over a decade of no warming will push for mandating these things, you haven't been keeping up).

I live in North Dakota, and frankly, EVs are a deathtrap at this latitude and for my situation. When the places you travel are 120 plus miles apart, and that has to be done for half of the year with the heater on and likely lights as well, the battery packs just won't be enough, especially hauling a half ton or more of equipment.

If you get stranded without heat you can freeze to death (-30 temps are not uncommon in winter, and I have seen -60) and I have known a couple of people who did.

If you want an EV, fine and dandy, but I don't want to have to subsidize it.
