I was skeptical until I read his family was gathering for an intervention. In that context, his remark about going off the radar could mean he was not going to hang around.

I have seen tweakers up close & personal. There is nothing normal in their thought process. Several scenarios come to mind
-He saw the tree, didn’t give a shit and had no concept of car vs tree=certain death
-saw the tree & thought he could drive right over it.

Tweakers have no sense of reality. They are psychotic, amoral and there is no reasoning with one. No humanity at all. They can fool anyone of us, as the are master manipulators.

Yeah, his email reads in a whole different light if you consider the possibility of drug-fueled paranoia at work. I’m still waiting for anyone to show whether any of his coworkers corroborated his story about being questioned by the feds. Seems like that would be easy to verify or debunk.

What makes you believe that this "gathering" was contrived cover, mis-direction and disinformation?

That's quite a leap of presumption in the case of Hastings...

I have a much different concept of who-is-fooling-who, and just who the real "manipulators" are in this case....

Now just who would have to motive to see to it that Hastings was not only eliminated, but that the narrative would support the notion that he was "unstable" to begin with?
