If he's that naive, then he's unqualified to be president of the United States. I quail at the thought of someone that gullible going head to head with Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping or King Abdullah.
IF the Rubes had remained true to his core conservative values (no matter how deeply hidden they might be) he would have been a ferocious opponent for any lib on the ticket.
