“Ask George Washington, Father of Our Country.
Ask Thomas Jefferson, Father of the Declaration of Independence.
Ask James Madison, Father of the Consitution.
Every one of them served as United States President while simultaneously holding citizenship with France.”
And all of them explicitly stated that they were grandfathered because they were born prior to the formation of the United States.
Is this really the best argument you’ve got?
No, they didn't. What are you, just a troll?
You can't produce one single quote from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, any other Founder or Framer, or any major authority in the history of the United States that ever said Washington, Jefferson or Madison, or any of our other early Presidents, was ever "grandfathered in" to eligibility.
On the contrary, it has been clearly understood by all significant historians and legal experts throughout history that the purpose of the grandfather clause was NOT for Washington, Jefferson and Madison, but to honor Founders like Alexander Hamilton, born on the island of Nevis, and James Wilson, born in Scotland.
And this has been documented, in the past, right here at FreeRepublic.
