BINGO! I remember that "new math" that was introduced when I was in middle school. Granted I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to math, but even I understood that the new math was not right.

Now, fast-forward 25 to 30 years and all these new math disciples are running the country. Thusly, they are creating budgets using new math, so any answer they come up with is the correct answer.

No sarcasm tag used because, unfortunately, I am correct.

I am a product of “new math” — a program that made little to no sense to me and didn’t seem to have anything to do with math.

I still struggle to this day!!

And, my dad was a professor of math and physics.

He said he couldn’t understand why anyone would think teaching the way “new math” instructed would be a good idea. He told me after “new math” students were coming into the university (not easy to get into) with a profound lack of knowledge in math — couldn’t do the simplest of operations especially fractions.
