TRENTON After months of pressure from both sides of the gun control debate, Gov. Chris Christie today refused to sign three controversial gun control measures sitting on his desk including a version of a weapon ban that he had called for.
Christie altered two bills, sending them back to the Legislature a massive measure (S2723) known as state Senate President Stephen Sweeneys centerpiece to overhaul the way the state issues firearms ID cards, and legislation to require New Jersey law enforcement agencies to report information on lost, stolen and discarded guns to federal databases (A3797).
But the governor completely axed a bill that would ban the Barrett .50 caliber rifle(A3659), which is the most powerful weapon commonly available to civilians. Christie had called for a ban on future sales of the weapon in his own package of violent prevention measures outlined in April.

What kind of moron introduces a bill and then vetoes their own bill?
A moron who wants to run for President.
Oozing to the right just a bit?
Must be an election coming.
Now is the season of GOP-E politicians pretending to be conservative until after the election.

LOL, I thought of the exact same answer.
Oh well, I guess he must not be the RINO we all know him to be then. Let’s all send him some money ASAP.
He must have learned that from Ron Paul :p
A moron who wants to run for President.
Yup.
It's too bad that people that are too stupid to see through this type of transparent crap are still allowed to vote.
I don't disagree of course, but that only works if voters are stupid.
I don’t send him money, but you can’t imagine how much worse off we could be in NJ with a Dem governor...
the kind that wants to "optics" to have it both ways. He runs ads showing him calling for it, to RAT base, and shows vids of him vetoing it to GOP base. Been happening it for years. General Public too stoopid to remember both, so they believe the part they see in the ad.
The last two elections have proven that's the case, beyond a shadow of a doubt.
In his veto message delivered this evening, Christie said that his proposal to ban the weapon was more narrowly tailored than the bill the Legislature passed, which would have also required owners to give them up. Tellingly, the Legislature points to no instance of this class of firearms being used by even a single criminal in New Jersey, Christie wrote. The wide scope of this total ban, therefore, will not further public safety, but only interfere with lawful recreational pastimes.
I'm glad he can finally see reason, even if it for selfish political purposes. Still can't trust him for a minute when your back is turned, though.

Charlie Rangel did it when he wanted to bring back the draft.
And . . . ?
I don’t know why Christie is bothering to try to look like a Republican: he’s already thrown away his reputation with Republicans.
“But the governor completely axed a bill that would ban the Barrett .50 caliber rifle(A3659), which is the most powerful weapon commonly available to civilians.”
And which, according to another story I’ve read, has been used in exactly ZERO crimes in New Jersey.
I’d wager a guess as to say that probably holds true in the rest of the U.S., too. At least in terms of robberies, holdups, etc. Not too many people are going to drop 10 grand so they can rob a convenience store for 200 bucks.
And it's our job to keep him from becoming "our moron".
