The Obama Administration has given a $200,000 Housing Grant to rebrand an ACORN affiliate despite a Federal Ban on funding ACORN.

Judicial Watch reports the following:

Judicial Watch, announced today that it has obtained documents from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) revealing that on February 12, 2013, HUD Assistant Secretary for Office of Housing Counseling Sarah Gerecke may have violated federal law by requesting that $201,222.07 be transferred from the account of the defunct Affordable Housing Centers of America (AHCOA), an ACORN spin-off, to HUD intermediary Mission for Peace “to specifically pay for the activities of former AHCOA affiliates.” [...]

Washington Examiner also reports on the Judicial Watch findings:

A spinoff of the scandal-ridden community organizer group ACORN received more than $200,000 in federal housing grants despite a ban on money going to ACORN affiliates, watchdog organization Judicial Watch announced Thursday.

ACORN, which officially folded in 2009 after a string of scandals, rebranded into more than 100 spinoff groups, including Affordable Housing Centers of America — also now defunct — and Mission of Peace, an affordable housing nonprofit.

In February, the Department of Housing and Urban Development transferred $201,222.07 from AHCOA to Mission of Peace “specifically to pay for the activities of former AHCOA affiliates,” according to a memo obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Imagine that! Timing is impeccable! Most of America is “back to sleep” and does not even remember what Acorn was. Plugged back into their televisions and internet... they couldn’t care less.

ACORN and all of its new names across the country will be getting ObamaCare grants in addition to the grants for “voter education” and whatever else. No doubt they will get some of the Amnesty stash too

ACORN never went anywhere. The same smell has been out there since 2008. Human pollution.

They will be paid under the “navigator” program. Navigators help people figure out their options under Obamacare. Navigators have to work for a non-profit. They will get their money from federal grants. HHS has been very careful not to prohibit convicted felons from being Navigators.

Obviously no opportunities to sequester funds at HUD. Meanwhile campgrounds are closed in the national parks and the White House is still closed to the public.

Giving money to ACORN is against the Law.
““None of the funds made available under this Act or any prior Act may be provided to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), or any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, or allied organizations,” according to the 2010 budget appropriations act.

HUD also made the grant despite a September 2012 report by the HUD Inspector General that concluded ACORN Housing, operating as Affordable Housing Centers of America, misspent funds from a $3,252,399 federal grant.

Because of the ban, the award to Mission of Peace appears to be a violation of federal law, according to Judicial Watch. MOP is one of numerous ACORN affiliates operating under new names, Judicial Watch spokeswoman Jill Farrell told the Washington Examiner.

.Who exactly controls the so called purse strings?

In theory, Congress. In practice, the various executive agencies spend the authorized pots of money pretty much as they please.
