BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) A federal aviation official says a large UPS cargo plane has crashed near an airport in Birmingham, Ala.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen tells The Associated Press that the A300 plane crashed on approach to the airport before dawn Wednesday. [snip]
Yeah. What?
wow, your experience must have been surreal.
it does almost look like they either ran out of fuel, or instrumentation caused the 1/2 mile or so short-of-landing on the smaller runway.
google maps shows houses and buildings on either side of the narrow path in. (to that shorter runway that runs NW/SE)
Just a quick glance at the history from flightaware (yesterday track/log), the flight in didn’t seem to have the dramatic drops in altitude while on approach. What was different this time?
UPS has it’s own fleet of cargo planes, just like FedEx and DHL do.
No passengers. Flight crew only.
UPS pays for damaged/lost packages all the time. Had a package (1 of 5) be involved in a train derailment. Funny thing was the box (after the claim was paid) actually got delivered 2 weeks later. So some of the stuff was recovered and delivered. Same thing will happen here. You just have to have something to show the value of your shipment (invoice generally).
A few minutes later, he said he heard another loud boom. Then it got quiet. He went outside to walk his dog and could see the smoke rising over the trees and hills.
Smith said he was stopped by a Birmingham police officer who drew his weapon and ordered him to return to his home and said that there had been a plane crash."

It is heavily populated, but not in that specific area.
If that were true...NTSB would NEVER, EVER tell the public the truth.
“The recent crash of the A300, caused by an explosion in a fuel tank...”
It was aliens.
Thanks for the Laugh.
On the other hand if you do prove to be correct I will be sure to tell you that you were right all along.
LEOs should be there. some of Obongos peeps may mistake the parcels as some of his Stash.
The only thing they have in common is the Airbus decal.
Vastly different aircraft.
Those things take off out of Mather airport and make a slow, steep climb right over my house a couple days a week. It's quite a sight.
‘Booms’ a couple of minutes apart?
Witness said both engines were sputtering.. Could it have run out of fuel? Heavy payload combined with high winds along route caused increased fuel usage?
