Why Have Police In America Turned Into Such Ruthless Thugs?
Right Side News ^ | Friday, 09 August 2013 20:39 | Michael Snyder

Once upon a time, the police were one of the most respected institutions in America, but now most Americans fear them. Almost every single day there are multiple stories of police brutality or misconduct that make the national news.

Just this week, there have been stories about police killing a baby deer at an animal shelter, about police killing a 95-year-old World War II veteran in a retirement home, and about police using legal technicalities to “legally” steal massive amounts of money from innocent citizens.

Why are police acting like this? Why have police in America turned into such ruthless thugs? …

These days, police all over the nation are actually being trained to bark orders at you and to respond to the least bit of resistance with overwhelming force. …

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Next question.

So is that to say Andy and Barney Fife are out of vogue? Sad...so sad.

Joe Friday and Theo Kojak too.

Seems like the new playbook is coming from the Geheime Staatspolizei.

“The entire country is rapidly being transformed into a “Big Brother” police state, and most Americans seem to like it that way.”

I have found that many Freepers want police-state tactics used against drug dealers, but fail to understand that if it can be applied to drug dealers, it will be applied to them as well.

They’ve turned into D icks because they have all those fancy warrior toys and the testosterone in them burns and yearns to use them aggressively...

Certainly, no doubt about it.
I noticed it just before I left, over ten years ago.
Even small town cops, dressed in flack jackets and other SWAT gear, as if they had been watching too many modern cop shows on TV and movies with the favorite line, “get on the ground, get on the ground-—NOW.”

I think somewhere in the 1980s...as police forces expanded out (they are all fifty percent larger than they were in the 1970s)...they took in lousy wannabe cops. It happened in small towns, and big cities. Some of the lousy cops got promoted, and they hired up more wannabe cops. As a nation, we’ve accepted this as ‘normal’.

Cops have always been thugs.

One of the things that surprised me in the 1960s was learning how brutish, self serving and amoral they were, they just don’t have much restraint.

Another surprising thing to learn about normal adults, was learning that they respected the law, but that they also feared the police. I realized that adults of my youth were drawn warmly to the uniform, but were also afraid of the unpredictability and whims of cops, and knew better than to trust them completely.

Many don’t remember that traveling used to open you up to cop abuse, and it could be dangerous to be singled out as a powerless outsider, for some fun and games by local cops or Sheriffs.

Conservatives betrayed the constitution to wage the war on drugs.

This is what most of you reading this asked for.

The liberals were gifted the tool they are using to make you their slave.

Which conservatives would those be? The more I read about who instituted the war on drugs, the more liberals’ names I see listed.

I have found that many Freepers want police-state tactics used against drug dealers, but fail to understand that if it can be applied to drug dealers, it will be applied to them as well.

This is because many people, FReepers included, tend to see life in a somewhat compartmentalized milieu. Where what is under discussion can only be applied in one specific manner, and thus anything not falling directly under that manner is 'safe.' Thus, using brutal tactics against drug peddlars is ok, because, after all, they are selling drugs and they rightfully deserved to be appropriately chastised. Those tactics are not supposed to spill over to 'normal people,' and when they do people seem surprised.

Same thing with the Patriot Act. Even though certain aspects of the act were not exactly - to put it mildly - constitutional, many were ok with it because it was under President George W Bush and a Republican administration. I believe at the time even Congress may have been majority Republican. Only a precious few FReepers raised alarm that just because a questionable law was put into motion by 'our' guy did not mean that in the future it would not be in use by 'their' chap. Most did not see it that way. I remember a couple saying that 'if you didn't have anything to hide what was the problem.'

Most people, either due to socialization or nascent intelligence, tend to be myopic. They only see things as either 100% hysop white or 100% midnight black. They do not see the nuances in between, the grays and other murky shades that better define life since not that many things fall perfectly under white or black. However, the majority will tend to see things as either wholly good or truly bad. Thus, even now, you will see some FReeper claim that 'something must have triggered the cop to slam the woman on the street for walking behind him, and that she is in fact lucky he didn't shoot her.' Why? Because in that FReeper's mind, cops are good and thus there must have been some reason that happened.

Most people believe that things like dynamic entries by cops can only be used against 'baaaaaad people,' and thus munch their morning wheaties in the firm belief it would never happen to them. Not knowing that there is always a chance for a mistake to be made, or for someone to crank call and use their house as an address, or even someone with an ax to grind (maybe even a changing political situation) to specifically target them. The most likely situation would however be coming across a cop who is having a bad day, and even then I am sure someone would say the dude was lucky he didn't get shot by the cop. After all, he MUST have said something ....

Primarily Nixon and the so-called demigod Reagan.

Those two along with all the "values" conservatives who saw the war on drugs as a unique opportunity to impose one aspect of their religious values on everyone else.

The Democrats half-heartedly supported the WOD, because they liked to snooker the old new-deal democrats into believing that they weren't the terrible 60s generation hippies.

Those old democrats that had to be appeased are all dead now and the party of Obama is starting to show signs of loosing the restrictions on some drugs.

They will now use the police state apparatus for more important things like imprisoning those who have politically incorrect viewpoints.

I still have to pinch myself to see if i’m dreaming whenever I see something about stop and frisk. really? we have that in America? just because it apparently reduced crime (and I would never believe the exact figures from that jewish stalin anyway) or that its mostly blacks.

if you live in a crime free mostly white suburb, the next time your walking down the street, ask yourself how you’d feel in a cop stepped in front of you and said to stop so he could frisk you.
its unbelievable and we said nothing because its ny.

I strayed but my point is, the government and supreme court have been giving police more powers.

Like I said, liberals. Nixon was Mr. Amtrak/EPA/OSHA/wage-controls/social-program-expansion/Lenin’s-bEarth-Day and I forget what else. Reagan was Mr. Leave-Iran-Alone/First-Amnesty-For-Illegals/DVA/SS-bailout-and-benefit-taxation/EIC-expansion . . . it does exhaust the brain to count them all out.

LOL, welcome to freerepublic, a God fearing conservative site where religious values are seen as what created America, and what could save it today.

It is the anti-God voters who have brought America down.
