Obama pushes ambitious Internet access plan
Washington Post ^ | Aug 13, 2013 | By Zachary A. Goldfarb

President Obama liked the idea laid out in a memo from his staff: an ambitious plan to expand high-speed Internet access in schools that would allow students to use digital notebooks and teachers to customize lessons like never before. Better yet, the president would not need Congress to approve it.

White House senior advisers have described the little-known proposal, announced earlier this summer under the name ConnectEd, as one of the biggest potential achievements of Obama’s second term.

There’s just one little catch — the proposal costs billions of dollars, and Obama wants to pay for it by raising fees on mobile phone users. Doing that relies on approval by the Federal Communications Commission, an independent agency that has the power to reject or approve the plan.

Republicans vow to oppose any idea that raises costs on consumers, while others question whether it’s appropriate to use the FCC to fund an initiative that is better left to Congress’s authority.

I’m sure Justice Roberts will say that it’s fine because it’s not a tax, it’s a fee.

Half my cell bill now is “fee’s, taxes and more fee’s that look suspiciously like taxes”.

The federal government has NO business having any involving in local schools.<

Yes, local schools need to be run at the local level. The feds are over-reaching once again. This all-in-one approach to education dilutes knowledge and guarantees mediocrity. And brainwashes children to support the dictator-in-chief. Next thing you know, he'll turn over lesson plans to the U.N.

So..is anyone going to have the guts to stop this crap?

I didn’t think so.

Gawd, this country has proved to be a piece of cake to take over.

How pathetic.

You have a $22,000 property tax bill? What state?

Property tax is unConstitutional anyway. It’s basically renting your home from the government.

If you have to pay to keep it, it isn’t yours.

Try not paying it and see how long you get to keep “your” property.

I wonder who will pay the fees on the obamaphones?”

Three guesses and the first two don’t count. We already pay for 911 and 311, what’s one more fee. I cancelled my land line. I could afford the land line charge, I just couldn’t afford all the fees attached to it.

Indeed, I’m suspecting a suspension of elections soon based on executive order and no one will do a damned thing about it.

It wasnt that long ago I didnt have a mobile phone, I got along ok without one.

I am just about ready to dump the damn thing and if this extra tax goes thru that’s my cue.

If every conservative did the same it would put some hurt on the takers.

If the makers start dropping out by defunding by non-participation in these money-grabbing “industries” you would start to hear some howling from the liberal.

They need us more than we need them.
