If you are a gun owner, and especially if you are a CCW holder, your should read this book:
The Law of Self Defense, Andrew F. Branca, 2nd Edition
It really lays out some clear principals you need to understand before you ever consider using a weapon in self defense. I found it to be a fairly easy read, though thorough. The author provides tables in each chapter spelling out the differences in the laws in each state.
