Eydie Gorme, the lively singer with a remarkable range who performed a decades-long act with her husband, Steve Lawrence, that made them the sweethearts of mid-20th-century American pop music, died on Saturday in Las Vegas. She was 84.
...
Ms. Gorme and Mr. Lawrence had a sophisticated stage presence and vibrant voices, but they stood out for two other reasons. As rock n roll conquered pop music, they refused to join in. Instead, they stood resolutely with the standards, performing the songs of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, the Gershwins and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
...
Eydie has been my partner onstage and in life for more than 55 years, Mr. Lawrence said in a statement. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing. While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time.

Yep, the grips had a solid hold on the boom! They had great mics back in the day and ten years later I used the same set up to have a dish whose name I cannot for the life of me recall sing "Yesterday" while walking down the outside stairs of the new North Texas State College auditorium, through a courtyard and right onto the set of "Denton After Dusk" a late night, "Tonight Show" ripoff I hosted.
Sad to say, my tape of that event was lost many, many years ago but even if I had it today, I do not have a 2 inch tape player to run it through--
Thank you. I wish we could have real variety shows like that again.
The husband and wife team of Joseph Balogna and Renee Taylor are still working together. At least they were several years ago.
Gadzooks, 0! You can never have too much of a great song... or a great drink!

RIP Eydie. One of the greats of all time.
Wow! It looks like it was done in all one take! How did you see this, were you in the audience or are you “somebody”? LOL
What a clear and beautiful voice. Eydie Gorme sang circles around Babs, who also sang this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FVrDyFoJbs

bossa nova’s fault
I watched it live on television in 1958 and "Hell, YES!" I am... "Somebody!"
Eydie Gorme is missed.
My wife & I always liked their music. On a cold morning in 1986 a kitten followed me until I picked her up & carried her home. We named her “Eydie” and she was our furry bundle of love for seventeen years.
Both class acts.
R.I.. Edie! Condolences to Steve. She was one of the best!!
“But What About Me?” blows me away every time.
Then there’s this classic:

Of course, all the Nazis who watch it around 18:30... will raise hell!
I watched it, Bendy, and I think it... would go oh so well on Broadway if we could re-write it as a musical!
Wow! What a great voice. I forgotten how great she really was.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05pU6l4PEJw Eydie and Steve are part of this Steve Allen Show scene.
I’m just happy, Bendy, that Eydie will be the new vocalist in heavenly Jimi Hendrix band.
