Eydie Gorme, the lively singer with a remarkable range who performed a decades-long act with her husband, Steve Lawrence, that made them the sweethearts of mid-20th-century American pop music, died on Saturday in Las Vegas. She was 84.
...
Ms. Gorme and Mr. Lawrence had a sophisticated stage presence and vibrant voices, but they stood out for two other reasons. As rock n roll conquered pop music, they refused to join in. Instead, they stood resolutely with the standards, performing the songs of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, the Gershwins and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
...
Eydie has been my partner onstage and in life for more than 55 years, Mr. Lawrence said in a statement. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and even more the first time I heard her sing. While my personal loss is unimaginable, the world has lost one of the greatest pop vocalists of all time.

Class all the way.
RIP
RIP, Lady.
I only remember her and Steve from The Carole Burnett Show, but that was enough to appreciate her.
They dont make that kind of great and classy entertainment anymore.
In fact, other than Steve and Eydie and George and Gracie, can anybody else point to a husband and wife entertainment team nowadays? ( Jay-Z and Beyonce perhaps? <- But I dont see them performing together )
I remember their show together. Great entertainment.
I was at a dance when he caught my eye
Standin’ all alone lookin’ sad and shy
We began to dance, swaying’ to and fro
And soon I knew I'd never let him go
Blame it on the bossa nova with its magic spell
Blame it on the bossa nova that he did so well
Oh, it all began with just one little dance
But then it ended up a big romance
Blame it on the bossa nova
The dance of love
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Now was it the tune?)
Yeah, yeah, the bossa nova
(The dance of love)
[Instrumental organ]
Now I'm glad to say I'm his bride to be
And we're gonna raise a family
And when our kids ask how it came about
I'm gonna say to them without a doubt
Blame it on the bossa nova with its magic spell
Blame it on the bossa nova that he did so well
Oh, it all began with just one little dance
But then it ended up a big romance
Blame it on the bossa nova
The dance of love
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Now was it the tune? )
Yeah, yeah, the bossa nova
(The dance of love)
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above ?)
[Fade]
No, no, the bossa nova
Or hear her sing it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44UNJdOmQUA
May God rest her soul
She was what they used to call The real thing
I’ll have that stuck in my head all day. :)
I remember hearing that as a young lad on my transistor radio.
RIP Eydie.
OMG ... what tasteless vacuous crap ! Didn’t they have any gangsta rap artists wearing dirty, ugly clothes back in those days ? /S
How in the world did they get such good audio on that? Boom mic on a dolly?
They dont make that kind of great and classy entertainment anymore.
*********
True that. Class doesn’t sell in America anymore.
Oops. Apology for duplicate.
And if that is not enough, how's about this at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3cc0HlO7so for some more tasteless crap--
After I finish my drinks... I'll see what else I can find from my misspent youth.
Weren’t they on the Arthur Godfrey Show and he treated them so awful? If I remember correctly, he never recovered his popularity after that.
