Florida Sit-In Against ‘Stand Your Ground’

By

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The college and high school students arranged themselves in the colonial-style chairs and on the green carpet, a portrait of the state’s Old Capitol building above them, as they exchanged stories about their lives and the travails of the “black and brown youth” in Florida.

One young woman whose parents were both drug addicts spoke about how she had defied the odds; she will graduate from college next year. A young man mentioned that he was one of the few in his family who had not ended up in prison. Another talked about his years in and out of homeless shelters while he was growing up in Miami.

Only a stone’s throw away, beyond the two receptionists in front of them, behind an imposing white door, was the office of the person they hoped would hear them and respond with action: Florida’s Republican governor, Rick Scott.

On July 16, three days after George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the Dream Defenders, as they are called, streamed into the governor’s suite to hold a sit-in. Encamped there since then, they are demanding changes to Florida’s self-defense laws, specifically, the Stand Your Ground provision, and in the way minorities are treated in the state’s schools and on the streets. They have vowed to stay until a special legislative session is called on their issues.

No shortage of people who hate freedom for commoners.

The law was not a factor in Mr. Zimmerman’s defense. His lawyers built his case around classic self-defense. But the law was part of the jury’s instructions

And it played absolutely no role in Zimmerman's acquittal, as Zimmerman had no ability to retreat as he was laying dazedly on his back, with Trayvon on top of him raining down blows.

That left me shaking my head. They are arguing against self defense? What a bunch of idiotic buffoons.

But look who is paying them. Obama’s thug enforcers, riddled with known physical attacks on innocent people.

Why is it that every generation of college kids let themselves be used as pawns by the enemies of society?

Don’t stand your ground, just lay down and die.

26 kids in the photo?!

That’s quite some demonstration.

“Why is it that every generation of college kids let themselves be used as pawns by the enemies of society?”

As children they are taught to respect their teachers. In college classes they are under daily indoctrination by those they were taught to respect.

Students are quickly learning Alinsky tactics. The Left is overwhelmingly in charge of education. These students will be in shock when they try to make it for themselves when momma and daddy are no longer paying for them.

That SYG was not even a factor for the defense in the Zimmerman trial is a tribute to the relentlessly ignorant left-wing zealotry of college “scholars”.

1/3 of Stand your ground homicides in the state of Florida are brought by black people defending themselves . they will go to jail for 15-25 years w/o stand your ground. As uusal that is NOT MENTIONED IN ANY Travon stories.

The one good thing: they aren’t otherwise occupied making welfare babies while they’re ‘sittin’in.’

When I was in college (1959 -1964), we didn’t do any of that stuff!

We were too busy to do foolish things like camp out in the Capital: we went to class, drank beer, chased the co-eds, drank beer, went to football games, chased co-eds, drank beer, partied, drank beer, played intramural sports, drank beer, joined a FRaternity, had mixers with Sororities, drank beer, etc. etc. Somewhere along the way, we studied.

The rest of it is kinda hazy, but aside FRom campus politics, we didn’t do politics.

I could not vote until the 1964 election (you had to be 21 back then), so politics was back burner except we all rallied for Brother Goldwater in the rampup to the election.

Allowing 18 year old kids the vote may have been a hugh and series mistake!

It is a small Rent-A-Mob.

You KNOW they are being paid, despite the NYT puff piece LIE!

Bunch of dumbass college kids with misplaced priorites.

Scott should charge them with Trespass and put a boot in their ass!

Government Whimps!

“As children they are taught to respect their teachers.”????

I don’t think they teach RESPECT in government schools anymore!

We lost the battle when the 10 Commandments and the oaken board were outlawed in government schools.

Yes, teachers teach students to respect other teachers.

And Democrats.

And little else.
