Nothing as sinister as that. What I am hearing is that they were detected using a FLIR on a CBP helicopter. The transport mechanism may be different, but the detector is the same. The new phased array sensor cameras are amazing.

I hear the new thing is some kind of short wave IR. Supposed to be able to produce very high resolution pictures.
