“This will not sit well with most Americans.”
I’ve lost faith in that statement. Veterans are a minute percentage of the US population. I’m convinced most don’t care about us any longer, but it doesn’t detract from my pride of service and love of country.
“Take from disabled veterans but not from food stamps, welfare, crazy checks, Obama phones, and the like!”
I think the massive amount of freebies are what’s important to far too many Americans. They not only buy them things, they buy their souls.
Sadly, you are correct.
My co-worker went to her family reunion not too long ago. She is married to a retired military NCO, and she works two jobs after her husband lost his recently.
She said that all a large portion of her family could talk about was how to get more benefits. Food Stamps, SSDI, Welfare.
They talked incessantly about lawyers who will sue the government to get more Social Security disability.
Noticing her reaction, they got angry and said that she was getting "benefits" too via her husband's very small military retirement pension.
Her husband has a Purple Heart and served in 3 wars. But, they don't see the difference.
