This all started with John Dewey, and as a teacher you should see other “educators” foam at the mouth when I go after him. Race to the Top, or Plummet to the Bottom as I like to call it, is fulfilling Dewey’s and FDR’s dreams. There are even student civil rights built in to punish schools for punishing more minorities than whites. There is teacher accountibility required, but the process actually encourages teachers to cheat (even more in some cases). Common Core is of course RttT’s capstone, with it’s vague standards language but specific informational text requirements. It’s going to be an interesting ride!

You really need to HEAR Beck and Stu perform this. It is worse than the Obama kids mentioned in post 11, because it is giving glory (worship, Kudos) to the curriculum, not a person, such as Obama.
Were 5th graders forced to recite “We learn more with common core!” poem?

I learn more every time I read about this. I’ve read some of the Next Generation Science Standards, and there is some good stuff in there that will help improve our competitiveness in STEM. But then right alongside there is pure crap - like this:

Reducing the level of climate change and reducing human vulnerability to whatever climate changes do occur depend on the understanding of climate science, engineering capabilities, and other kinds of knowledge, such as understanding of human behavior and on applying that knowledge wisely in decisions and activities. The biggest risk I see in CCSS is the loss or reduction of authority by local school board and officials, who will now be able to teach pure crap and hide behind the “We’re required by LAW to teach these standards” when parents start asking questions.
