Charitable hospitals that treat uninsured Americans will be subjected to new levels of scrutiny of their nonprofit status and could face sizable new fines under Obamacare.
A new provision in Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code, which takes effect under Obamacare, sets new standards of review and installs new financial penalties for tax-exempt charitable hospitals, which devote a minimum amount of their expenses to treat uninsured poor people. Approximately 60 percent of American hospitals are currently nonprofit.
Charity for the uninsured is one of the factors that could discourage enrollment in Obamacare, which requires all Americans to purchase heath insurance or else face new taxes themselves from the IRS.
“It requires tax-exempt hospitals to do a community needs survey and file additional paperwork with the IRS every three years. This is to prove that the charitable hospital is still needed in their geographical area — ‘needed’ as defined by Obamacare and overseen by IRS bureaucrats,” said John Kartch, spokesman for Americans for Tax Reform.
“Failure to comply, or to prove this continuing need, could result in the loss of the hospital’s tax-exempt status. The hospital would then become a for-profit venture, paying income tax — hence the positive revenue score” for the federal government, Kartch said. “Obamacare advocates turned over every rock to find as much tax money as possible.”

Let me add, thank you Justice Roberts, you had a chance to strike down this bad law, instead you upheld it. I think Roberts was either bought off or someone had the goods on him.
Obummer should be forced to be enrolled in his Obamacare.

One of what must be the worlds oldest hospitals was discovered in Jerusalem recently. A Crusader hospital that even served kosher food to Jewish patients.
Might I be more clearer by saying that hospitals began as charities.
Could really hurt our Shriners hospitals, as they are not community needed, but function over a few states (our Chicago one serves several states). They have burn centers and do cosmetic surgery for kids free of charge.
Most the patients are flown in by Shriners as well.
Can’t have anyone doing charity work that isn’t sanctioned by the gub’mint now can we?
When what is planned really goes down, the fate of Shriner’s hospitals will be laughably inconsequential in the big picture. We are staring a fledgling totalitarian police state run by communists and islamists right in the face as it looks around and surveys the areas that still need subjugating.
As bad as things are, still nobody seems to be fed up enough.
Seems it doesn’t matter what is in the bill as Obama will do whatever he deems necessary as our benevolent dear leader.

So will St Judes. All of this the dictating to the hospitals how they must run even their charity is Unconstitutional and violates all principles, rights, and freedoms, our nation was founded on.
Too darn bad it takes a Constitutional Amendment for getting Congressional Term Limits. I'll sure practice term limiting with my vote though.
So now, not only will poor people remain uninsured (according to the CBO), but they will NOT be able to get medical treatment at all unless the charitable hospital is willing to pay additional fines and/or legal fees to defend itself!
Once again this only shows how Democrat “compassion” hurts the people they claim to care so much about!

About 10 years ago a Brit told me, if you have something wrong and need to see a doctor, you fly to America and see one the next day. If you wait around Brittan to get an appointment and a referral then when you do see them then your problem may be untreatable.
It will be the same here. If, as Massachusetts is discussing, states cancel the medical license of doctors who won’t take state insurance, then we’ll be going to private clinics set up offshore.
