Curious you point that out-—The story notes that the hulls are to be “low-magnetic steel”. What that has to mean is that they are some form of high stainless steel. And that ain’t much good in a sea water environment. The only stainless steel in a US sub is in the reactor and the kitchen-—and maybe the terlet. They tried titanium earlier and learned the same thing. But Russian subs do not have a history of lasting very long so maybe Ivan doesn’t care about hull life anyway?
