The U.S. Department of Agriculture made farm subsidy payments to 28,613 dead farmers between 2011 and 2012, of which 1,799 were deemed “improper,” according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report issued in June.
The report, entitled “USDA Needs to Do More to Prevent Improper Payments to Deceased Individuals,” said USDA’s Farm Service Agency identified “thousands of deceased individuals who were paid $3.3 million in improper payments after their dates of death, of which FSA has recovered approximately $1 million.” …
“Improper payments” are those sent to individuals who had not properly filed documentation and who had subsequently died, or sent to relatives who had filled out the documentation and signed it on behalf of the farm’s now-deceased owner—something not permitted under FSA regulations. …

Blacks whose families have never farmed were paid billions in reparations in the Pigford settlement, so paying a few million to a couple of thousand dead farmers is small kettle of fish to the USDA. After all, this corrupt agency is in charge of the biggest fraud of all, SNAP, the food stamp rip off.
Ok, ok, I get it. Sure makes sense. Let's hire more USDA agents. Lot's more. Thousands more. Let's keep hiring and hiring and hiring.....
Just one question, though. If everyone works for the government, where does all the money come from to pay them?
Well, you know the socialist theory, that if the government owns everything it is then obviously a wealth generator and the bureaucracy can never eat up all the production resulting in a net loss . . . right?

After all, deceased individuals are probably best qualified to identify deceased applicants.

If everyone worked for the government, then why would you need income taxes? My head starts to hurt when I think about how this would work.

His hair was dead long time ago. Also, he had the worst plastic surgery job...looked Chinese for years after he had it done.
I'll never forget "Silly Sam" reporting from the ME during the Iraq-1 war in his brand spanking new Tilley Desert Jacket and Tilley Hat. An explosion went off during one of his "LIVE" reports and old Sam suddenly disappeared from camera view because he had dropped his mike and hit the dirt in mid sentence. I'll never forget the camera panning and tilting around trying to find him.

Much like our other social programs, farmers need to get off the dole. If it’s no longer profitable to farm, then find a different way to make money. Farmers are like teachers in that they poor mouth and cry and ask the public what would happen to our country if it wasn’t for them.
They should have shot Wickard, and sent Filburn to Congress.
You are assuming it’s simply subsidies. It’s not.
The better question to ask farmers is “Would you support removing government from farming, including price supports?”
As a retired farmer, I can assure you that there would be a resounding YES!
Ever heard of EPA, OSHA, FDA, and any number of other alphabet agencies? They ride roughshod over farmers just as they do everywhere, and removing them would bring such a sigh of relief to the bank accounts of farmers everywhere they wouldn’t even notice the missing subsidies.
I agree. Those alphabet programs need defunded, and there are many other issues to deal with as well. Unfortunately nobody on Congress has the testicular fortitude to do such a thing.
