The comical part to this story is that you could stand up (as a single guy or gal), claim gay status, and request the ten days to marry your partner. You enjoy ten days somewhere, and come back to admit that you and your partner got into a big ‘tif’, and both decided not to marry. A couple months later, you repeat this trick again, same result, another ‘tif’. The commander would be stupid enough to allow you at least two of these efforts....twenty days of leave, before denying you the third one. Then you go and report him to the base IG...and they decide to give you a third free leave period.
The length and depth of the special favors is what people talked about five years when you could sit and imagine how this would ‘work’ in the current military. I think this is just the beginning of favors that everyone just agrees to....for the sake of getting out of mess number one, but getting themselves immediately into mess number two.
