With a record 101 million Americans receiving food aid from the federal government, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) wants more kids to be on the dole for food during the summer months.
“As part of its ongoing commitment to improving access to healthy food for low income children, USDA has set a goal of serving 5 million more meals to eligible children this summer,” the agency said on Aug. 1.
The agency’s goal amounts to serving 166 million meals through its Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which already gives subsidies to 3.5 million children a day during breaks from school. “The SFSP enriches the lives of millions of low-income children in communities across the U.S.,” the USDA said. “However, it reaches far fewer children than the school programs.” Last year, the agency provided 161 million meals, bringing the goal to 166 million government-subsidized meals served.

One of the ways the government will achieve this aim is by giving children subsidies on EBT cards. The USDA released an evaluation report on testing “new methods” to provide food to children in the summer, specifically through the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children (SEBTC) program....

As a right-wing evil conservative, I believe all subsidized food programs should be immediately ended. I really don’t give a damn about starving kids that I don’t know, but I really love my children and I want a future for them. It is time that we say these things out loud and with resolve. When liberals’ heads explode, simply say, “don’t be upset with me, if you care so much why don’t you demand these bastard children’s sperm donors to pay for their meals and tell their sluts for mothers to cross their legs.”

You know what really ticks me off? I used an online “See if you qualify for” application program for EBT, and found out we are qualified for EBT cards. I have far too much dignity than to apply for those. We aren’t swimming in money, but do not need any assistance.
I used to work in the same office as the welfare people. One day, their secretary got so mad that she quit. After many years of working there, she compared her working paycheck with the clients’ monthly freebies. Hers came out on the losing end. She cleaned out her desk and walked out the door.
Here in NJ some urban districts provide lunch during the summer - no joke.
Imagine being a member of a group of people so popularly reviled, where even your approach spurs flight/”for sale” signs, the locking of doors, clutching of purses, etc....
