[Wis. Catholic] Hospitals can't deny admitting privileges to abortion doctors, AG says
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel ^ | 8-7-2013

Plans by three Catholic hospital systems in Wisconsin to deny admitting privileges to doctors who perform abortions would "be in active violation of federal law," Attorney General J. B. Van Hollen's Department of Justice said in a court filing last week.

Federal law "provides that hospitals accepting federal funds may not discriminate against a physician because that physician has participated in or refused to participate in abortions," the state Justice Department said in its filing in federal court.

According to experts on federal law, if doctors can prove they were not granted privileges specifically because they perform the procedure, the hospital systems —Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Columbia St. Mary's Health System and Hospital Sisters Health System — could lose federal dollars in the form of research and public health grants.

Doctors who perform abortions would be required to obtain privileges at hospitals within 30 miles of their clinics under a new law that has been blocked until at least November by a federal judge. Seven doctors who provide abortions in the state lack privileges, and at least four are applying for them at religiously affiliated hospitals, according to their employer, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

The hospitals said they would not grant privileges to abortion providers, following confusion over their stance in federal court. In the abortion providers' challenge to the law, their attorneys said the privileges requirement would be especially difficult to meet because a large proportion of Wisconsin hospitals are religiously affiliated and opposed to abortion.

Deny any abortions at any stage at their hospitals. If those docs can’t perform abortions for any reason at any stage then the same thing is accomplished. I’m no legal expert so someo ne correct me if I’m wrong.

I imagine that there are a large amount of religious based hospitals - the government needs them as much as they need the government. Imagine if these faith based hospitals were all to announce their closure due to their religious liberties being violated.

If you fail to use the leverage you have then they fail themselves!

First...do no harm!

Harm??? What are you thinking? Do you understand how relieved a woman is when the prospect of the arrival of a little girl or boy is "lifted" from her? I mean, she'll be able to go back to school...to keep her figure...to get her boyfriend-du-jour off the hook for child support payments.

Do no harm indeed!

Pick and choose rules? You jest. Compulsion to contract is illegal, and that is exactly what the government is attempting. If government purchases cars from a vendor can they then demand the vendor supply airplanes? The vendor is not in the airplane business. Yes, planes are another mode of conveyance, but so what? The vendor produces cars not planes. You want a plane, go see the plane vendor. Likewise, you want an abortion, go see an abortion vendor.

Not once Obamacare passed. obamacare mandates that no new hospitals will allowed to be built unless they agree to receive federal funding.

Welcome to the National Socialist America.

My great uncle was a Jesuit who was trained back in the 1930’s. If the government had attempted such a thing in his day, parish Priests would have been at the pulpit in every Mass instructing the faithful that “it is a SIN to cast your vote to re-elect this man!”

Would seem to be quite simple if we were still operating under a Constitution. The “First Amendment” supersedes a mere Federal law. Period!

And by the way, seeing as the mythical “right to abortion” was simply a “right to privacy” the Feds have stepped on their own dicks with all the unconstitutional, 4th amendment violating, anti-privacy spying.

When will we develop the spine to hit the reset button on this government?

Have a few here, including deacons, who do this in a diplomatic but unequivocal way

Lost a bunch of mexican families who consider it a sin to vote republican (they go by the mexican version of that party, not being assimilated)

Dominican nuns in the ‘60s were talking that way, also. Their message got lost on a lot of people for various reasons including their being old burnt out and too tough ( abusive in some cases)

G Weigel in I think “Goodbye Good Men “ talks about th Jesuits and their rejection of HV. Got lots of J devotees in my family too

This is why we need to dump the income tax and quit worrying about dreaming up a scheme to replace that revenue. The Feds shouldn’t have enough revenue to bribe and bully states and other institutions. They should be paupers, begging us with hat in hand every time they want money to do something.

They are forcing people to choose between their job and their religion.

But they have a different standard for the death cult. All death cultists can enjoy jobs, exemption from obamacare, and practice their uncivilized religion all the while showering hate on Christians and Jews.

Churches need to engage in a little civil disobedience.

First of all, refuse any and all demands by the government to countenance homosexuality or infanticide.

Then, if the government rescinds tax-exempt status, simply refuse to pay taxes.

You can’t serve two masters. The Catholic church will have to choose sooner or later. This is just the first round; eventually the government will coerce churches to perform homosexual “weddings” and Christian hospitals to perform abortions.

Sadly, J. B. Van Hollen is proving himself to be no friend of conservatives. He is just an empty suit.

I don’t see why they need it anyway ,, simply burn the cash ,, spend it on good works , building schools etc. etc. no profit , no tax.
