Detroit Tigers Ramone Santiago (Black Hispanic) and Victor Martinez (White Hispanic) both got hit by pitches last night.
It happens.
Bryce Harper was hit last night, he took too long getting out of the box after a homer and the Braves pitcher didn’t dig that. Understandable. The night before one of the Uptons really admired a homerun and nothing happened.
The Braves are like the Nats last year and the Nats are pretty pathetic.

I don’t feel one bit sorry for A-Fraud, the Rangers still owe him over $40 million.
Maybe it was the spirit of Dock Ellis:

During last night’s Atlanta at Washington game. 20 year old Bryce Harper hit a home run and although not blatant, he did admire his work and trotted around the bases.
The next time up, Braves pitcher Julio Teheran plunked him in the legs on the first pitch. Old school baseball. Harper bitched about it as he walked towards first base and Teheran slowly walked off the mound asking Harper what he was going to about it.
Harper has a rep of being a little brash. Teheran had a few of his fellow teammates up front to protect him... the 6’4” first baseman and a 6’5” outfielder. The looks on the faces were straight out of the Bob Gibson scowling manual.
Personally, I would have plunked Rodriguez with the first pitch thrown to him on Monday night. He is a disgrace to baseball.
Same here, coming from this Boston Red Soxs fan, whom the team is having one of its best years ever.
Harper would make short work of him.
Now we can all rally around the poor, picked-upon doper .
Of course, this is Chicago, so they were likely libs.
Leaving the batter’s box, Harper didn’t do anything that any other player doesn’t do. The bigger problem was that upon reaching home, he threw a kiss towards the sky (was listening to the game on the radio, so I didn’t see it, but that is how it was described).
What the Braves didn’t realize was the reason that he did that. He had been spending time with a young cancer patient, who died, and it was for them that Harper did that. A nice tribute from a good-hearted young man.
When it comes to Harper, people are looking so hard for something negative that it must be due to jealousy. Harper’s reaction to being hit by the punk Braves pitcher (apologies for any redundancy) was also well measured and classy. He didn’t rush the mound, but he also didn’t take it lying down.
I haven’t seen anything but hardnosed baseball from Harper. But I didn’t like the slow start of his trot last night, I hope that doesn’t become a habit with him. I hate showboating, I’m glad there is a way to express displeasure with it within the game. Something should have happened after Upton’s homer the night before, he showboated twice as long as Harper.

Classless? So is Rodriguez. I guess it is even on that score.
I don’t care if he gets hit unless its intentional. As far as I’m concerned any pitcher who intentionally hits a batter should be subject to a one start suspension.
I’m no fan of showboating after a home run but its not dangerous or potentially deadly like intentionally hitting a batter.
I am happy to hear that some batters want to stop coaching kids to hit the ball right back up the middle. Its going to happen on occasion and pitchers are going to get hit by line drives but its not something anyone should try to do.
A lot of players do things like this --- giving thanks to the Almighty for their talent. That was why the broo-haha over Tim Tebow taking a moment to give thanks was so funny to me. Obviously none of these people have ever watched a baseball game.
As for A-Rod; I live in the Seattle area and when he left for the Rangers people were very upset. The first time he came back to Safeco Field, people had brought Monopoly money and were throwing it out on the field when he came up to bat. The stuff was fluttering from the upper decks down to the field.
oh, come on... it's BASEBALL! gawd, i love baseball...
