And to think...for the first 130-something years of Mormon templehood (early 1840s into the first half of 1978), blacks SPECIFICALLY couldn’t walk into a Mormon temple...or get married in a Mormon temple...all because the Mormon god officially objected to their skin color.

I’m not an expert on the religion by any means. But I thought Joseph Smith was an abolitionist who not only allowed blacks into the church but permitted black men to be ordained as priests and that the anti-black policies only began under Brigham Young.

Well, that's the beauty of latter-day prophets and progressively revealed religions, don't you see? It's mighty handy when God sends down a new revelation behind closed doors to handle any urgent situation that comes along. What if the government takes a dim view of polygamy? Boom! New revelation. What if your religion doesn't suit the new social consciousness? Boom! New revelation. Real handy.
