Have been one time to that area. The people in the Kuban region around the city of Krasnodar are very proud of their Cossack heritage. Their ancestors were recruited by the Czar and sent south to occupy the land and form a bulwark to halt the advance of the Turks. It's sort of like the Texas of Russia and the wrong place to insult their flag.

PS: With a mild climate, fertile deep black soil, vineyards, sturgeon fishing (caviar production) on the Sea of Azov, and an almost Mediterranean lifestyle it was by far the most pleasant area of Russia I ever saw.
