I think it was a great model, it sure seemed to work well back then for both district and driver. This was in the 60s; I'm not sure if they still do it that way or if it would even work today. I think it's easy to imagine the scores of lawsuits that might result from a driver kicking a Trayvon type thug off of her bus. Cries of racism would abound. As for the additional use. The owner/drivers had bus payments to make even through summer so putting their bus to use during those months worked well. It also allowed us to get to the lake and other locations w/o having to ask our parents to drive us. Here is where we would go. You could get a bus ride there, stay all day, and a ride back home in the afternoon for $5. The bus would usually be filled to capacity.
